Comment:

Great for intro students who have little artistic skill. Takes the pencil out of your hand which is annoying but if you are straight with her she respects you. She learns to be hands off with those who are at a higher level.

Comment:

Professor Hernes is great. I am a Pre-Med student and didnt know what to expect. Be warned, this is a real class. It is very time consuming, and at times frustrating, but it is a blast and is intensely rewarding. Highly recommending if you have even a slight interest in drawing. Effort definitely trumps talent. Thats for sure.

Believe me when I say, I came into this class with NO knowledge of painting. I came out with a very solid foundation and have continued on my own. Prof Hernes could teach ANYONE to paint. She is very talented and a great professor. She is NOT easy though, so do not use this class as a GPA boost. Highly recommend!

She's rude. She acts like its a hassle if you drop by for a quick question. Her grading is strict, and like others said, it doesn't matter how hard you try. She doesn't help the people who really need, she just passes on by and lets you keep doing things wrong. Take drawing with another teacher, she ruined the class for me.

The class was pretty cool, but she is a tough grader. She grades on how good your drawing is, not how hard you tried. Sometimes you just can't win, with her. She is helpful, but getting a good grade was impossible for me.

BE WARNED, if you care for you GPA, you prob dont want to take her. Her grading system has a glass ceiling and she is unpredictable in terms of how she grades. Even art majors have a problem and get low grades. EXTREMELY DIFFICULT, basically although most of things are a little fun, the flipside is knowing that she is a strong critic.

Very smart and impressive artist. However, she devotes her attention to her "favorite" (those who are art majors) and her criticisms are not helpful. Oblivious to the fact that many of those who do "best" are those who work last minute and cheat on her final paper. Why work hard when she's not even going to notice or comment on it? Disappointing.

One of my favorite teachers. I learned so much and left the class being able to draw like i never thought i would be able to. Very demanding class with a lot of outside work but well worth it. Overall just an amazing teacher.
