Comment:
Her class is hard because she seems to make up the rules as she goes. No textbook, lots of notes, but the notes you take are supposed to be all you need. Not true, the tests have questions that sometimes make no sense. Here is a tip though: the comprehensive final is just a mishmash of previous test questions. Good luck

Shaffer is a very engaging teacher, very entertaining too. However, her class is inconsistent. You take copious notes, but they don't correlate to the test very well. She doe not use the textbook, but encourages you to use Connect, which only has a two week trial- so you might as well buy the book or you are SOL. Not for the thin skinned either.

When she did chose to talk about the material it was very unclear and she feels justified in not explaining. She does not show and interest in her students success. She never replies to emails and when you come to her for help during class she says she expects students to find the answer. The only way I learned in this class was from google.

Pat is funny in her own way. If you don't like semi-dry humor then she's not gonna be your favorite teacher to hear lectures from. She doesn't use the book AT ALL, but instead gives you the option of using connect to help you study for her tests. Don't bother buying the book or connect access code if you understand the notes well. Tests are hard!!

Brassy, smart, fun, and won't put up with nonsense. If you want econ to be interesting, take Professor Shaffer. Read the book and use the online practice questions she provides. Don't take this class if you want to create your own reality.

She doesn't use the textbook at all. Instead she gives very specific notes in class, that if you copy exactly and study, you will do fine. Her tests are tricky, many questions are intentionally wordy and meant to confuse students, but she does offer a ton of extra credit opportunities. Come to exam reviews, she hands out points those days as well.

Prof. Shaffer has been my least favorite professor throughout my entire college career. No book--what is in her notes is what you learn, which is inconsistent with worksheets and her exams. She isn't afraid to share her opinionspolitical views. In the classroom, she is right and you are wrong: ALWAYS. Her ego is almost as scary as her facial expressions. Takes things out of context. Singles out students for there mistakes. Won't shut up about herself. A true self-absorbed know-it-all. If you want a brat for a professor, take this class! You'll love it!

Make sure you can be there for all three tests. Otherwise she'll automatically fail you. But she made studying really easy, and the lectures were entertaining. Definitely would take again.

Professor Shaffer has her own unique way of teaching. She is serious but laid back. DO NOT buy your book because she relies more heavily on her own notes. DO NOT skip class because attendance is mandatory and if you miss her lecture it is hard to follow what she is talking about. Overall, she cares a lot about her students success

I had her in the morning and she kept me on my toes, mostly. I took microeconomics. If you're taking that, I recommend her. If you skip class, you WILL fall behind. her lecture is your only resource. If you're thin-skinned, she might be offensive. If not, you'll have a blast. She is fairly conservative.

I do not recommend her at all. She is extremely condescending and her class was incredibly confusing. She does provide amazing notes, that I will give her credit for, but her tests are extremely confusing and you have to know all of the in's and out's of her notes. She only has tests, so if you do poorly, you are screwed!

She's one of the most unprofessional professors that I have ever met. In our first class she told useless stories that seemed she was trying to bump her own credibility up then proceeded to tell the class that any student that was a Bus. Mgmt. major was in a pointless degree and that we should switch majors! And she teaches in the College of Bus.?

WORST TEACHER EVER. I had to drop the class the very first day because she spent 2 hours telling us useless facts about her life. I could tell you more about her than about economics. DO NOT EVEN BOTHER.

DO NOT BUY THE BOOK, you don't use it at all. Probably one of the most passionate professors I have had yet. She really knows the material she is teaching and makes lectures entertaining. The class was challenging though, just go to class, do the extra credit, and STUDY, STUDY, STUDY for each exam.

Worst class I have ever taken. No point in going to class, she just complained about the government for 30 minutes and dismissed us. Assignments were inconsistently graded, she seemed to just hand out points based on her horoscope. Basically incomprehensible when asked questions, and was unable to explain simple concepts. Don't do it.

Professor Shaffer is awesome. I like that the knowledge I have gained from her class can be applied in day-to-day life. She is difficult, and sometimes goes off topic, but she's very enthusiastic about the subject! She is willing to help if you have any questions and she sticks to her syllabus so make sure you keep up with the dates on there!
