Comment:
Easily the best English class I have ever taken. The workload was manageable, and he grades pretty leniently. There are a lot of group projects, but they are mostly in-class and simple. Lectures are a bit boring. The assignments felt like useful writing styles, so I feel like my technical writing has improved after this class.

I am obsessed w/ Dusenbery. HOWEVER, I admit he is dry. Class is boring, especially at the beginning. This is partially due to disinterest in the subject, but also due to his monotone, slow voice. But, he is incredibly helpful & kind, funny too if you pay attention. He is such a cute grandpa figure, he even invited us to his house for Halloween.

You don't have to read the textbook for this class, since he gives you a study guide at the end with everything you need to know (I would recommend buying the textbook, though,to help with the study guide). Although Prof. D can be somewhat boring at times, he is so excited about history and writing, and definitely the Professor to take for CIV111!

Peter Dusenbery is one of the great teachers anyone would hope to experience. Forty years ago I took several of his classes. He is engaging, stimulating, and one of the great listeners, who teaches students that their own thinking is important and valuable. With his calm, collected and unassuming manner, he changes lives.

Not very many students had interest in this class because the professor is dry. He is helpful with assignments in and outside of class but they are pretty boring and repetitive. I recommend if you can keep interest in a boring guy for the whole semester.

Absolutely great teacher! He's very understanding and genuinely wants you to leave class learning something (even about yourself). He's very helpful when writing papers and gives you as much time as needed. He grades tests strictly but fairly and made me a better writer, for sure. I hate english and history, but I thoroughy enjoyed his class.

I had professor Dusenbery for CIV 111&112. Not too demanding. Attendance required. Small readings each week. Supposed to read the chapters but I never did. Grades fairly hard on papers, but gives them back to you as many times as it takes for you to get an A. Tests are hard but all the info is given on the study guide. Fairly easy A.

I really enjoyed being in Professor Dusenbery's class. He is very nice and very understanding. If you read the assigned readings and you like to discuss, his class is perfect for you & you will do very well. You write a lot of papers, but they are very short and easy. Sometimes the class is boring, but that's because history isn't really my thing

Great teacher, very excited about history...He actually made me interested in history as lame as it is. You don't have to turn papers in on time - he wants em when you're ready to give em. He will give you back a draft as many times as it takes for you to get an A on it. Loved it.

GREAT teacher! He is very helpful and willing to work with you outside of class. Very nice man. He explains everything really well and the study guide guarantees you an A on the test. A little boring, but it's history. One of the best teachers I have had here!

Had him my freshman year. Great professor. Taught me to write well. Loved him! Take CIV 111/112 with him if you can. He tends to ramble, but he is hands down the best English teacher you will ever have. He expects alot and you will be able to fulfill his writing expectations by the end of the class. Great way to meet friends as a freshman too :)

In order to get an A in this class you have to write papers about the topic he wants you to write about, plain and simple. The lectures are incredably boring and given the choice I would take an A in the feminist Herbert's class than a C in ****nbury's any day.

I love the Dusemeister! He's an awesome guy, knows everything about everything. He responds to criticism and tries to make things more interesting. He tells you exactly what is on the test and he'll help you make your papers better. Don't take Herbet, take Duse. Second semester is less work than first, so hang in there. Great teacher!
