I have heard much criticism prior to taking McCauley's Computer Programming II, but it is clear that she is making a clear effort to change. I can confirm the lectures are still dry. Attendance is not mandatory but highly encouraged to stay up to date. Be sure to do the online textbook assignments and the weekly homework and you should do great.

She was pretty scatterbrained and a lot of the assignments felt plagirized. It took a long time to get feedback (like honestly a month). Not that the assignments were hard. Also no laptops is annoying becase the lectures are very dull. I guess the gist of it is the class isn't that hard but it's not fun. It won't be something you look forward to.

Such a nice lady! The information can be difficult but as long as you reach out during her office hours and show her that you are trying she will do everything she can to help!

Hard to access outside of class. Uses her own website almost exclusively. Lectures are pretty unorganized and often hit or miss. Feedback on assignments often took at least a month.

Unfair division of points between assignments. Lectures are very boring, she can kill your interest in programming. The class is not too hard if you are decent at programming but if you struggle I would look elsewhere

Honestly, not a bad professor for an intro OOP course. Yeah, her tests ask questions involving unnecessarily tedious computations and she's a bit dry, but the homework and labs aren't bad and she does explain the concepts (albeit after some shltty myprogramminglab homework). All in all she's not amazing but not terrible either.

This class is tough which becomes morecomplicated by her inability to teach. Her "lessons" are unorganized, her tests are made to fail you, and she wastes precious test time by interrupting the class in the middle of a test to correct her mistakes. Please, I urge you to avoid her if you can.

Terrible instructor. She is very rude and dry. You learn from the textbook and she goes over small portions of reading in class. Doesn't help you learn how to implement code at all. Test are very long and nothing like HW, Labs or classwork. if you can take another instructor do it!

Everyday in this class you will feel like you're being tested. This is the most stressful learning environment I have ever been in. Expect to learn on your own and be tested on what you know every class. She gives out practice tests without solutions, then gives tests that are completely different. How do you prepare for that?

Quizzes will break your spirit. Most people drop, the class is so hard. McCauley has a slight stutter and not good at speaking. Don't take McCauley for this class

She makes an interesting subject sound as boring as possible. If you come to her office hours for homework help, she either gives vague or incorrect advice. Quizzes and exams are difficult (most of my classmates get grades under 50 the first quiz). A few second-timers in class say that getting NEGATIVE scores on midterms is possible.

There are many assignments and readings to keep up with while the tests can break your spirit, but Dr. McCauley taught most of the material well and had many resources available online. Most importantly, she was always available to help and showed respect if you were willing to learn. No late assignments, show up for class, and don't fall behind.

She expects a lot out of you. She gives 5 quizzes throughout the course. Each one is a mini test and they are hard. There are only 2 tests, a midterm and a final, but the quizzes collectively act as a third test for calculating your final score. Homework comes at you non-stop. Stay on top of the HW, read the book, and her notes and you'll pass.

She is bad at grading/teaching/helping you understand. I'm fairly certain she doesn't know what she is talking about half the time. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!

Good professor who you can learn a lot from. She's very helpful and provides a lot of support with assignments. Programs can be difficult but focus on important concepts. Tests are hard but she provides a helpful study guide. Lecture can be very dull, she teaches with slideshows. Be ready to work hard but learn a lot.

This class was absolutely BORING! she's nice and all, but she just makes an interesting class boring. She's the only teacher who offers this course, so if you have to take it, just bring something to do to stay awake.

Ugh. I hated this class. She's a nice lady but the class was useless. You only had to go to turn in the handouts she gave. Otherwise everything was online. Do not take this class, not because of the teacher but because the subject matter is truly useless.

I agree with another commenter that it wasn't until I graduated and went to grad school that I appreciated her high standards. I did well in her class, but at the time I didn't appreciate the level of detail. However, without having learned it at CofC I would not have succeeding in grad school. She was always available to help, so I flourished.
