Worst professor I've ever had. Her grading is completely subjective and unfair. She's so rude and blames all her mistakes on other people. All the bad things people say on here about her are 100% accurate. I could literally go on and on about this professor but bottom line- DO NOT TAKE ONE OF HER CLASSES you will completely regret it.

She is very critical, and judges other students harshly. She is very rude and assumed that I was dumb and spoke to me like I was a child. She is very unclear and spends the majority of class going off of topic and reads from the book. She has no respect for other students ability to learn and becomes better students. HATE HER

Comment:
She was very racially insensitive. She read the the n-word aloud and kind of laughed when a black student was uncomfortable with it. Had to be asked to say black people instead of just blacks. Incredibly dry and boring lectures as she just reads straight from the book. Has no clear or consistent grading criteria. Rude to struggling students.

You can tell Professor Grey is intelligent and passionate about what she teaches. She gives good feedback and wants students to engage in discussion in her class. So if you don't read, she will catch you. I took this as a gen ed and if you're looking for a relaxed and easy class, this isn't the one. A lot of reading and analyzing for this class.

Professor Grey is passionate about film. Her lectures may be long but she gives you all the information you need to get an A on exams. Her prompts are a little advanced but she gives the option to send your essay early to review. She is a fair grader but don't expect to do well if you are on your phone the whole class and don't participate!

Professor Grey is nice enough, however her lectures tend to be very very boring and long. She doesn't really use a screen other than to project the page shes reading. All notes are on the whiteboard by her messy handwriting. She's been teaching for a long time and you can totally tell that she knows her stuff 100%.

Comment:
Grey is literally the worst professor at UIC. Her lectures are tedious and confusing. The final exam had way too much information to study for and she wasted time reading long passages from the textbook to the class, instead of explaining the passages and going over the material. She is very condescending, rude, and apathetic to students.

Comment:
Once, Grey took an entire class period (without stopping) to demonstrate how to successfully answer an essay question on an exam, which she asked us to do twice in addition to short answer and matching. She can be incredibly condescending and constantly blames others for her mistakes. About a third of the class dropped after the midterm.

Attendance is mandatory which sucks because her lectures are super long and boring. I would avoid taking her because she doesn't give specific details on what she wants in the essays or on the exams . She's way too broad and unclear about everything.

Her classes are extremely boring, she reads to the class straight from the texts. She never clarifies what she wants you to take out of her lectures. She's very confusing and vague in what she wants you to do for papers and analysis. Her tests are tough because she's a hard grader.

She is the WORST professor I have ever taken at UIC! The final exam was absolutely ridiculous- way too much information to study for. I wish I could go back in time and have just taken this class with a different professor. She has made my interest in literature less than when I had taken her class.

Horrible, she seems to know a lot about the subject at hand, but insists on reading the textbook to us out loud in class. Class = midterm, paper and final. Midterm had too much info and not enough time to write it all out. Should have dropped class when received email saying no phone/pc were allowed in class. Harder than 200level mandatory attend.

My favorite instructor at UIC! Professor Grey is sharp, engaging, and extremely intelligent. Also, kind and sincere. I dreaded the course material (early American Lit) but it became really interesting through her eyes. My friends and I all got A's, because she motivated us to be our best. Excited for her course this fall!

she is incredibly intelligent, but her lectures are difficult to sit through. she is frequently late, and keeps students after class has ended, which i find extremely rude. i'm sure she is helpful if asked a question via email or meeting, but i worked on my paper with my TA, who was a god send. avoid if possible.

Robin Grey has been, without question, the worst teacher I have ever had the misfortune of having. I feel as though I know less about the material now then when I came into the class and her lectures are incomprehensible. She ruined Emily Dickinson for me. Not to mention, she always arrives ten minutes late and never lets us out on time. Awful.

She has an interesting way of analyzing literature and tries to be very helpful, but her comments often ask you to do too much too close to an assignment's due date. Like being asked to give a presentation the day before the class? Or to be told that your idea for a term paper is bad less than a week before it's due? Me neither.

I had also heard bad things about professor Grey before taking her class. However, I honestly believe it is one of the best classes I have ever taken. She was extremely helpful (looking at drafts, answering questions) and she opened up my mind to a whole new way of analyzing literature. I definitely recommend taking her!

Absolutely awful. Not only a terrible prof., but a terrible person. Ranted about irrelevant historical details (ex. the feast of the circumcision), and relished the silence when she asked questions none of us knew. Insulted me and several other students via email. Uninteresting, rude, hypocritical, unsympathetic, pretentious: AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

She made very little sense, stuttered through irrelevant lectures, belittled students, but asked inane questions. Seemed to have high expectations, but then assigned unintelligible and unintelligent essays. She was polite via e-mail, but just a terrible professor.
