Comment:
Roger McNamara is one of the worst professors I have ever had. I asked him to explain something to me and he never could. I told him I was having trouble adjusting to college life (I was a freshman) and he was slightly understanding but still taught our 100 level class as if it was a 400 level class. I will never ever take his classes again. EVER!!

He is a really good guy if you were his friend, but not the greatest teacher. But is is easy going and allows you to always make things up in class. Four essays including a research paper. If you have an other options do it, but he's not the end of the world!

Kind of hard to understand him. There is a ton of reading that you have to do. After exams, he asks the students if anything was hard about it and he takes it into consideration when grading.

The course material is interesting, but the professor pretty much irritates people and doesn't grade particularly fairly. In terms of educational value the class was good, but really this class pissed me off more than anything.

Interesting class in terms of the material. Readings were really good. The class itself is not a terribly pleasant experience because the professor can be a bit uh, nervous, and tends to be quite rude some days. Also, he dictates interpretations and can't seem to tolerate other views.

This class is so easy! You watch the movie on Tuesday after a short introduction, then you discuss it on Thursday. Prof. McNamara doesn't really care if you come prepared and read as long as you participate in discussion and come to class. Essays are EASY (3 total) and a short presentation. It's impossible not to do well on the essays because he wi

Not easy if that's what you are looking for. The class is a writing intensive so it's reasonable. There is tons of reading. Daily quizzes, 3 papers and final. Almost impossible to get an A on a paper. Tough grader! The class is interesting though.

I was surprised to find a sad face by his name. I loved Society in Literature b/c we focused on African/Indian literature for a change! He is EXTREMELY helpful outside of class and wants you to do well. He is such a sweetie and encourages participation, but he is a hard grader but let's you rewrite one paper. It's a lot of work b/c it's a WI course

This guy gives you alot of work and alot of reading. I feel he is gettiong rate much harder on this site then he should. I took this as a writing intensive course so I cant complain too much about the work load. He is a hard grader. This was not my funnest class and I am glad to make it out of that class with a passing grade

Hes basically really hilarious. He randomly cusses which you do not expect from his proper accent and way of speaking. He assigns tons of reading which I fell behind in, and never caught up, therefore never participated (maybe once) and I wrote B papers and still got a B+ so even though he really wants you to participate, he doesn't punish u 2much

Hes a great teacher. If you want to learn about South Asian literature this is a great class to take. The material is so interesting if you actually have the desire to learn it. He does have a stutter but it doesnt really affect his teaching. There is a lot of reading involved in his class and if you want to keep up and do well you do the readings.

Roger McNamara speaks english as his native tongue (from calcutta) for those who think that's why he has trouble lecturing at times. he has an accent and a STUTTER, but it really doesn't affect class too much. still, he knows his material very well and NEVER gets offended by misunderstanding or cultural bias. highly recommended.

he CANNOT teach this class, he is so self-conscious about his english that he can hardly speak in coherent language. Second, his expectations on papers are way to high for an undergraduate at least. lectures are BORING, The material is interesting if you want to know more about India's history and culture. WORK HARD!! if you want to do descent.

A very INVOLVED class. If you are truly interested in this subject a great place to pursue it is in this class. Otherwise the highly analytical papers and indepth discussion may not be to you liking. Although he posesses a very pleasant and somewhat unaware demeanore his true wrath is in his grading! Beware!

He is very knowledgeable, knows his stuff, and leads interesting discussions. The class requires a ton of time spent on reading about 10 books, writing huge papers (that you will not get an A on),and taking a final on top of it. Although he is a good teacher, he has graduate expectations for writing papers.

This man is unbelievable, he doesn't know how to teach and if you ask him a question he asks the class for the answer. He doesn't kno what he's talking about and expects you to read his mind when writting papers. His expectations are tooo high especailly since he cannot teach.I would not recommend anyone to take his class!

This is absolutely the worst teacher in history!! He doesn't even know the English language, let alone teach or grade it! He assigns readings but doesn't even know most of the terms in them, like NASDAQ or whether Ben Franklin was for or against the Declaration of Independence!! HORRIBLE!
