Was scared to take him, but I didn't need to be. He is fair. His lectures weren't to my taste (too many life lessons as opposed to social psych) but they were enjoyable and never strayed too off topic. Lectures don't cover everything on test, but tests are fair and easy. Passionate about urban violence. Brought us candy and canceled the final.

Was terrified to take him for Social & he ended up being one of my favorite professors! Lectures were straight forward w interesting topics, 3 short quizzes directly from text & lecture, 1 research paper, & 2 presentations (all very fairly-even easily-graded). He was easy going & cared about the students. & no final! Do the work & its an easy A

Barrett works hard and expects you to do the same. Come to class prepared to answer the question presented at the previous session. The lecture outlines passed out at each class are your golden ticket to good grades. Take good notes. PARTICIPATE! EMAIL him for office hrs + absences. Challenging + great teacher the reason I became a Psych major.

I feel horrible for anyone who has to take a class with this man. I've only merely gone in to ask for an override since he's the Chair of the psychology department... worst experience ever. Tried to get him fired. Makes you feel extremely uncomfortable, and he is very condescending. Avoid at all costs. Really.

impossible class. doesn't help students outside of class, even if you try to contact him. always thinks he is right. tests are impossible and they are all that count in the class. 3 "quizzes" as he calls them, but they are more like midterms and then a midterm and final which are also impossible.

Tests are impossible because he not only doesn't tell you what he will test on, everything is based on memorization. all multiple choice. also a confusing lecturer, and occasionally very rude to students with some kind of inferiority complex. he takes attendance every class, lectures are all powerpoint. 3 small quizzes, a midterm, and final and presentation. His lectures are not based on the book, but his tests are. extremely unapproachable and condescending and with a napoleon complex. unfortunately, he's the dean of psyc so you cant really complain about him to anyone. Professor Garrett is a knowledgable and experienced teacher who gives informative lectures and challenging quizzes. While this might motivate some people, others may find the tests to simply be too difficult. There's a hefty amount of reading. Good lecture outlines provided (lectures are all PowerPoint). I can honestly say he is the worst professor at LMU. The class isn't that hard, but he is unbearable. Lectures are 100% pointless, yet attendance is mandatory. There's 3 quizzes(30 pts.each) a midterm and a final(100 pts.each) To top it off, he always adds something negative about race in his lectures. Horrible professor, stay away!

Screw this guy. If you want to hate psychology take his class. He thinks everything is about race. (but that being said, if you are black in his class you will have at least a letter grade advantage compared to other students) He is very rude toward his students. Probably my biggest regret of 1st semester freshman year was taking his class.
