Honors. Three papers. 100 points each. He tell you exactly what he wants on the papers. They are long but he basically writes them for you. 100 points attendance, he's pretty lenient though. 100 points on "quizzes". He claimed that he lost all of our papers and gave us all A's if you turned everything in. He let us turn the final in a week early.

There is one big essay due but other than that all you have to do is a few at home quizzes which are completion and then turn in 100 points of essays by the end of the semester. He gave us a 2 and a half week extension for the big paper. Whether you get an A or a B depends mostly on attendance, and a lot of times he would disregard absences.

He talks about random stuff that has nothing to do with the subject. He will give you new work everyday which is pointless!!!! He does not explain how to do any of it and will not tell you when its due. He shows videos that are very short and expects you take answer a lot of questions which no one in my class can do.He is the worst teacher I've had

Only assignments are a 13-page paper over Thomas Jefferson and your final, which comes out to be about 9 pages. If you can't write, don't take the class. If you can, it's an easy A. Literally don't have to pay any attention. If you have perfect attendance you get an extra 100 points.

Absolutely worthless teacher. He drones on about how he despises the doctrine of Calvinism, (although the way he speaks of it makes it obvious he knows nothing about it). He assigns obscure papers with no real guidelines, never returns graded work back to you, and does not even have an email. Spare yourself the pain and do not choose this idiot.

Your only grades are three papers and a few quizzes. Attendance is not mandatory but does count in your grade. Last day of the semester you add up your own grade so go to class and pay attention. Write the papers, he outlines everything you need, and you'll be fine.

I was in his Honors American history class. Listen to everything he says, copy what he writes on the board, and use the materials that he provides for you. If you do this, you will easily pass the class! The professor knows exactly what he teaches and requires you to explain to him what you learned from his lectures in essays.

2434-Religion in America. Dr. Petrin's instruction is truly a credit to his profession. Course is almost entirely based on essays so be prepared to write. Had no interest in this prior to course, but Dr. Petrin is a wonderfully engaging professor who grades fairly and probably leniently as well. Second course with the Dr. Wish I could take a third.

Terrible teacher. He gave me a B in this class on accident when I actually earned an A. He is a luddite and refuses to use email so I was forced to get his home phone number to contact him. After 4 conversations and 6 months he has done nothing. His classes were uninteresting and were not in depth. Do yourself a favor and don't take his class!

Lectures are pretty useless and boring. He isn't clear on assignments and he doesn't stick to his syllabus. He doesn't even give contact info or office hours on the syllabus. If you need help he is no help at all. The textbook on CD is cheaper than a regular textbook but it is hard to navigate and some documents are either not there or hard to find

I have to disagree. Some think the CD instead of a book is helpful, I find it confusing and frustrating. I would rather have a syllabus that is final and concrete with a book instead of 30 different folders. He doesn't own a TV, Cellphone, or computer BUt his textbook is on a CD...it may be easy but I still don't like it.

Petrin is super easy, I'm taking the 3-week summer course right now, GO THIS ROUTE. He gives 2 essays and gives you a CD instead of a textbook with all the sources, plus step-by-step instructions of what he wants. He's pretty interesting too, mildly funny, but makes history interesting if you had a coach as a history teacher in high school.

Hes a really nice and funny teacher but you learn practically nothing. Its a good class to facebook in. You have to write two essays that are not too difficult and there are only a few quizzes. He allows revisions and plays A LOT of videos. Not horrible but verrrry boring!

AWFUL!!! Doesn't tell you anything about assignments. AVOID THIS TEACHER. I was under the impression there were a total of 2 papers, but now (the day before the final) I am trying to finish 9 papers. Very Critical when grading. SUPER BORING!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

This is truly a gem of a course no matter what your goal going into it is. The course is essay-based almost entirely, your effort = grade, but he grades leniently. His lectures are so well planned; like watching the History channel. Interesting course b/c he correctly many misapprehensions which students have from incompetent high school programs.

I took American Cultural History from Dr. Petrin and it might be the best class I had in college. He taught in lecture, through the reading and with the very structure of the course. From plate tectonics to jazz in one semester, and with a purpose - that's impressive
