Prof. Sode is great. Don't take this class unless you know some Japanese. It's easy there's some complicated topics but if you ask for help she'll explain it to you. Very kind and funny. Tests are a cinch. Easy A.

Comment:

Sometimes she seems scatterbrained, but this class is an easy an interesting way to get a G and an O out of the way. Attendance is mandatory and there are small quizzes every week or so. If you just go to class you will do well on the quizzes without any problems.

She is very knowledgeable and really nice, but she's not very effective as a teacher. Her lessons are always scattered and you're not sure what and when you have to hand in stuff. For example, you don't know what you have to know for exams. But overall, an okay teacher.

Professor, Sode,please do not teach anymore. Her teaching is terrible. Is she really a professor??? I strongly recommend everyone not to take her class. She doesn`t care about her stuff and doesn`t help her students. AVOID HER！！！

She harasses students for no reason. If she decides she doesn't like you she harasses you in front of other students until you drop the course. She takes forever to return homework or tests. Many times she never returns work. She will tell the class she is very busy to return work but expects you to have your work done immediately. Double standard.

Her class is soooo boring. She is just reading her note. Although she is a professor, she does not know what to do and her teaching skill is sooooo poor. I`m sure her class was so boring for all students. If you wanna study JAP, you should do it by yourself. That`s better. And, she always ignores us when we meet in the campus. So rude. We hate her!

Sode Sensei is slightly disorganized, easily confused (say somethign in Japanese when she's doing an english lecture:p) and she relies on the textbooks to teach, but She is a lenient grader and extremely helpful, both in and out of class. She really knows her stuff and can be an ally when workin on out-of-the-box things.

Worst teacher I have had at this univ. Can't teach at all. Never learned our names, never did anything remotely creative, every class was a dry lecture straight out of the book. Easily confused; ignored questions. Slow grader of hw/tests. Hear she's OK at teaching Jap, but Ling doesn't seem to be her thing at all. Recommend avoiding if possible.

The textbook was awful and she taught directly from it; it seemed like she had read it just before class. Didn't have her own ideas on the subject and couldn't explain anything. Gave homework back after a month. My midterm grade was nearly ten points off. Occasionally funny (come in really late to the midterm!).

Worst class & most disorganized/unclear professor I have ever had. Often unprepared, got off-topic a lot, had obvious favorites. Class itself was excruciatingly dull. Material basically self-taught by reading the textbook, some supplementary notes. A nice person, but I don't recommend this class/prof, esp if you don't have Jpn lang background.

She explained things much more clearly than any other professor or teacher I ever had. Although she could speak more Japanese than English during discussion, she's a lenient grader and very helpful. She doesn't give homework every time you meet so it can be good or bad depending on you. Her exams are easy or fair for some.

This class was okay. I was expecting more out of it. Sode sensei is a very nice woman, but her class seems to lack a certain quality that I found when taking Oda sensei's class. I definitely did not improve on my speaking skills. Maybe the writing did. I felt like the class was more about learning about Japanese culture than anything else.

Sode sensei is a good teacher. Go to her office hours. If you do your work and show up to class, then you'll be ok. I wish I took JPN 203 more seriously, but I made up for my craptacular performance in 203 by taking 204 and ended up enjoying 204 very much while learning a lot of grammar and kanji
