Schrift was one of the best profs I had at Grinnell, his thinking style is fabulous. I just wish I'd had more credits free for his classes, and unfortunately the one I took was too intro and discussion to really get his teeth into it. If you have a chance, take him! It was out of my field but I remembered a lot from that class a long time later.

I took the tutorial Schrift offered in Fall 2009. The guy is amazing. I have had philosophy before but the way he teaches it is unique. The guy is like Chuck Norris, he talked with Nietzsche about philosophy and Nietzsche wept. Take his class ASAP.

His Intro to Philosophy class was the most stimulating and worthwhile I've had, and I've had quite a few of those in my career. His lectures were engaging, his assignments were difficult enough but not brutal, and he likes to use unicorns to illustrate examples about metaphysics. In short, he's great, and I'm taking another class of his next sem.

Very intelligent. It's fun to try to stump him but it never seems to work. Classes are lecture with students asking questions. If you're interested in the subject, you'll probably like the class. I recommend taking a class with Schrift.

He had an incredible understanding of all philosophy, great lectures, made me think more than any class ive had at this school. Shrift knows many things and is a world leader in Nietzche.
