-cancels class randomly without much warning, almost every week -does not use rubrics, lost rubrics the one time he used them to grade us on a group presentation -lecture is incoherent and a complete mess, multiple points are stated but the specifics change every lecture -this class feels like a critical thinking or history class, very random

Russell Smith simply does not care about anyone other than himself. He never responds to emails, and won't help when asked. He wants to make everything as easy as he can for himself, even if it means neglecting his students.

Maybe he is good person, but his class is awful. His exam is nothing relate with his lecture, he didn't explain enough for the project even project is 35% of final grade, he canceled class without sending us any email. I got C for the project, and I asked him why, but he didn't reply email ether answer my question after the class...

He gives you these huge group projects with little to no instruction and then goes on to belittle everyone saying that we should know how to do them, and that "in the real world" we would just do it. Obviously we are taking a class so we know how to do these things in the real world. also don't cheat.

You may like him as a person, I suppose, but as a professor he is one of the worst I have ever had. His lectures are confusing, goes off on tangents, and gets super worked up over minuscule things. There were several occasions where he would say one thing and contradict himself later in the course, would flat out deny it when we called him on it.

he makes literally no sense and his test have nothing to do with what he teaches. His lectures are tangents on national debt and make no sense. he does curve the test and grade but is a very hard class.

There is a bit of reading in the class but it was never too much. You should definitely go to class when you can... he does pop quizzes on the reading that are very simple if you have read. The group project is unfortunate and you have to present but it is easy points. Tests are difficult but he curves like crazy.

The tests are confusing and the questions are broad and easy to misunderstand. He is fun and laid back in class, but the power points, notes, and lectures don't really teach you anything. Learned more from reading on my own. Did offer extra credit though. GROUP PRESENTATIONS...

Take Smith! He is a really cool guy, has been around Winona for awhile, and he has some interesting stories and examples. He has put his time in on the labor side and it shows. Funny, respectful and understanding of students. Take him!! You might have a different perspective after taking his one of his classes! One of the best MKTG Profs at WSU!!

I highly recommend Smith. There were no tests, just small (easy) D2L quizzes, projects and presentations. He makes class enjoyable, has a fun personality and is fairly laid back. The material is easy to grasp and his power points lay out what you need to know.
