The book list was easily $500, but he only lectured about his personal experiences with the writers (repeated same stories for 16 weeks) and their biography (unrelated to the content). When I asked Qs he never responded to the actual Q. Syllabus assigned 600p in a week then didn't go over any of it. Always off schedule and didn't turn back papers.

I took intro to poetry on a whim, and I am so glad I got to experience a class by Dr. Goodhart before I graduate. I did not need an english class at all, but needed a break from molecular science classes. Dr. Goodhart is such a great teacher & doesn't make you feel dumb at all (poetry can be hard). Definitely recommend if you are interested in it!

Prof Goodhart is an incredibly knowledgable person. He completely turned my world around in terms of my perspective towards Shakespeare and made every single class absolutely enthralling. He does tend to go on tangents sometimes, but it was worth it to me because you caught a glimpse of the immense amount of stuff he knows!

Takes a bit to get used to, but papers/exams are easy. Just listen to what he says in class, and in your papers, make the same argument he did. Never explicitly say you agree with him though. If you're worried about paper grades, turn them in early, and he'll give it back with corrections. Also, don't use his copy of the book. Any copy's fine.

Prof. Goodhart is a nice man. You can see he has deeply studied Shakespeare, but can get lost in his lecturing. Word of wisdom -- don't bother with the textbook. He uses his own versions of the plays anyways. Learned more from his grad student when he taught, but Goodhart is lenient on absentes and late work.

Sandy Goodhart is awesome for graduate students! He is a very supportive person for students, and I've found him very helpful in discussions about my dissertation. I asked him to be on my dissertation committee, and I've very happy to have him. He's just a quality human being and a super nice person. Highly recommended!

This was the worst class I have ever taken. He taught maybe 3 or 4 lectures this semester and left the rest to guest speakers. The material in the book was never discussed yet we were graded extremely harshly on it. There was an absurd amount of work (3 5 page papers, one 15 page paper, 2 outside events, and 2 exams) for a core class.

Lets just say I am a gra student and I am on this site.He spends most of the class period babbling about other things than the reading. He is not much of an authority figure; he allows his students to take control of the class and dicussions inappropriate issues and trivial issues. He also gives poor or no feedback on papers. He's an awful professor!

Has the ability to make complex concepts very understandable. He is an excellent teacher - not just someone who professes knowledge and leaves you to find the answers - he is an excellent guide.

The concepts in class can be quite vague and philosophical but he doesn't really mind if not everyone catches on. He grades fairly easily and really just wants people to show up for class.
