Whoever has a negative perception about Ms. Hermes may want to reevaluate yourself. She has one of the most precise, logical, and rigorous minds I have ever seen at work. She persistently provoked us to think, beyond biases or preconception. She used the Socartic approach often, which showed that she wanted us to think, not merely babble on.

Mrs. Stephens (Miss Hermes when I took her class) was probably my favorite English professor at Clearwater. Her class was challenging, her expectation were high, and she expected respect: all of which are completely reasonable. I felt that I learned the most in her class, and feel as though many student misrepresent her.

Miss Hermes (now Mrs. Stephens) gets some bad rap from students, but that's only because she actually expects people to learn and put effort into her classes. I loved her - there was a lot of class discussion and analyzing of literature, but she made it interesting and was always willing to help. She also started each class with a great devotional.

She is one of the best English professors I've ever seen or had the privilege of learning from. You have to work hard, but you will learn to analyze literature, write, or break down the English language most effectively from this amazing woman! Work hard, and the grade you earn is well-deserved.

Worst teacher in my college career. Very mean. Very negative towards any author who wasn't a puritan. She preached at us for at least 10-15 minutes. I wrote a bad class evaluation (she stayed in the room, which is against the rules), one other guy and I both took a long time on the eval and she started very harshly grading our work. She is unfair.

Miss Hermes is a very Godly woman and professor who cares deeply for her students! Many discount her; most because they want to receive good grades for no work. Other comments like "You should always be prepared or be prepared to be called out publicly," and "She demands class participation" are true, and good for students who want to learn.

If you want to take a class where you feel defeated after every class, this is it. If you want the teacher to give you looks making you feel more retarded than ever, take this. If you want a teacher calling you out publicly, she is the one! Though I appreciate her devotionals I cannot say that 40 questions about one author is helpful by any means.

She is THE BEST Prof I've ever had and by far - my very favorite teacher. I learned a lot from her. No - her classes are not easy. You must work for your grade! Horrible teacher. I pity anyone who takes a class from her. Entire class grade depends on ONE research paper, taking the whole semester to do it. I had to drop the class even thought I was passing because I became sick & she would not give me a break(extra time). Felt like she spent the class period telling us what we did wrong on our assignments.

She demands class participation. The topics of discussion are very stimulating and interesting but my brain doesn't work the way she wants it to. The English majors are her favorites. Don't take art with Hermes. Do it over the summer and tranfer in the credits or see if Hutchinson is going to teach it in the summer and take it from him. Hermes = bad idea.
