I took three creative writing classes with Hazuka over the course of my CCSU academic career. He's hands down one of the best professors I've had. His class always felt so laid back and he promoted an environment for participation. I know I've become a better writer after taking his classes and getting his feedback.

I had very high hopes for this class but I ended feeling rather disappointed. Requires group critiques which would have been fine if the other students were interested in writing at all or knew how to critique others' work. Spends more time bashing on authors like Hemingway than giving sound advice other than to write your story in a different POV.

If you actually have interest in improving your writing, this class offers useless and terrible advice. His criticism focuses solely on his own commandments of fiction writing that he created which only restrict a student's creativity. Spends most of class making fun of past students work instead of focusing on improving yours. Overall, useless.

Really nice professor but I am biology major and I only took the course because I needed to be a full time student. I wasn't really interested in the course. It requires a lot of writing which I should of expected since it is a Fiction Writing class. Also you need to read the books he assigns for you because you need to give reviews.

Apparently the portfolio that is handed in at the end of the course trumps all. I received a grade of "C" today despite attending every class, participating in workshop and heeding Tom's (and that of my classmate's) advice. Overall, I really enjoyed the class but am left confused and greatly disappointed.

I learned so much, and I enjoyed pretty much every aspect of the course. The long class periods flew by, the stories were interesting (and great examples of masterful short fiction), the exercises were fun, and he gives excellent feedback. My fiction writing has improved tremendously.

Based these reviews, and his name, I honestly expected him to be a sexy asian man. haha I put so much work into this class, but I feel it was worth it. You need to write 3 pages of fiction every 2 weeks, on top of reading stories and doing writing exercises. Hes great, everything he said was either informative or fun. Also, he reads these. Hi, Tom!

As a creative writing minor, I was really looking forward to expanding certain skills. Tom is a superb teacher with a lot of experience in the field of writing/submitting. However, despite all that, the attendance policy is archaic. I left feeling slighted; other students did poorly and walked away with a better grade. Body in the seat=A

Has pets who can do no wrong and get their writing workshopped by AK's wanting to ally with teacher---- who encourages vicious, unconstructive criticism of work by the "less cool". Won't meet or help. Has mad attendance policy, but HE bags or wastes class reading aloud from past students' stuff and laughing at it. Final grade arbitrary. Bitter man.

I guess this guy is cool. I didn't really like his attendance policy. Don't take him early friday morning cuz you can only miss 3 classes. If you miss more than 3, your grade goes down quite a bit. Class was kinda boring for me. Same thing every day. Nice guy though, just don't take him if you are accustomed to go to class at your own leisure.
