Professor Skuban is simply amazing. He comes to class every day with such a great mood and such a great desire to teach. He explains everything so well and always looks for participation. Unlike most professors he will know your name after the first week which is really incredible. The readings are heavy but its doable, quizzes every Monday too.

Awesome teacher. His lectures are colorful and you feel his passion for the subject when he speaks. Tests are not hard however most of it is based on an essay topic. If you pay attention during lecture, study for the mini quiz every week, and participate in the class discussions you'll do great. Loved this class. If considering, do take.

Definitely an interesting individual and incorporates his experiences in material. Lectures well but his communication with students is very lacking through email. Main points, like attendance and work are not as descriptive on the syllabus and is very A-nol about absences. Make sure to understand his grading book. Very argumentative approach

Awesome human being. Sells everything he teaches with total finesse and intellectual superiority. Will disagree with you, but still treat you with respect. I'm having a great time with Dr. Skuban. If you want to get to know him, just be yourself and you'll see the inner Skuban emerge.

Dr. Skuban is one of the best professors I've ever had. He loves his subject and is always more than happy to help his students. The only thing I don't care for is that your grade is based on only a midterm, final, participation, and one or two major essays. Other than that, he's the best and quite fascinating.

Loved his lectures, and the group discussions once a week (mandatory for everyone) were helpful with the reading. Willing to answer questions and gives good feedback and usually understanding but don't skip too much or constantly be late. Awesome guy.

Hes my favorite history professor here at State. I love the way he runs his class. Its not all lecture and not all discussion, Its a good mixture of both. He lectures on MW, with a quiz on Monday and then its a group led discussion on Friday and he puts you in your groups. His lectures are interesting and the discussions arent bad, just read

GREAT professor. He actually loves what he teaches and teaches it with a passion. You should read because there is a quiz every week on the reading. Participation matters, don't skip class he takes attendance every time, its for your "participation grade" I have taken him 3 times already and I will be taking him again next year, great professor

Comment:

History of colonial Americas. The class revolves around easy reading, class discussions, and weekly quizzes. Read and participate and you'll be swimming in easy points. The 2 papers and midterm/final can be difficult but as long as you keep up on readings and quizzes you already know everything. He looks for points to give so leave nothing blank!!

Great professor. I have already had three classes with Skuban and he is just great. Usually a number of reading assignments including full books, but you can get by without just skimming through the books. I would recommend him.

I'm graduating and somehow I feel sad because I'm going to miss taking Dr. Skuban's class. By far he is the best history teacher I've ever had. He is top notch regarding Latin America. His lectures are always fun and interesting. Don't miss out on this awesome teacher. I didn't. Took him five times and enjoyed every class! !

film class so fun to watch movie and discuss at next class. read supplemental readings besides text books. assigns 3 essays encompass films, readings, text book. not hard class but picky on grading essays if you suck class can make you better. he is picky grader so have to work for A. have discussion grade and one group discussion grade.

He is a great professor and knows his stuff. This class you watch movies and discuss them and assigns supplemental readings and assigns essays. no tests or final. However, he is a tough grader very picky. so if you aren't a great writer then suffer not earning full points. other than that great class and instructor.

I took Dr. Skuban for History 166 U.S.-Latin America Diplomacy this last semester. He is a great professor and very knowledgeable on the topic. You will have to do your work but he is extremely helpful and loves helping his student. I would recommend that anyone take him.

The course work is demanding, but then again so is every history class. You must be prepared to read and contribute regularly to class discussions. Make sure to take good notes, for they will come in handy for the quizes, essays and short ids/essay exams! Overall, an amazing professor who keeps his class engaged! He is always willing to help, too!
