On the one hand Prof Boyle is very bright. On the other hand she is not clear, direct. Of course neither is the law. However she seems to hide behind that - the law is not black or white - to excuse her lack of clarity.

Awful marking. She creates a very easy to follow marking scheme for each "level" and adheres to it. So if you do some things required for an A brilliantly, but miss something else required to hit a B, she doesn't consider the brilliance, you just get a B-. You missed part of causation, so your policy arguments don't matter....umm, what?

Mixed bag. Great if she likes you, but if she doesn't she may in fact be a demon.

Excellent prof. Makes you think instead of just lecturing at you. Exams are fair, but not easy. Stresses nuances in the studying Criminal Law. She wants her students to do well, and is receptive to feedback. Always willing to meet with you if you need help. Classes are lecture + discussion + optional presentations to practice oral advocacy.

Extremely intelligent woman who has no time for students who tax her patience or ask stupid questions. Will play favourites, which can be intimidating for students who do not make the cut. She really pushes students to work to their full potential, but doesn't really give any pointers as to how to accomplish that.

Prepared:Gives outlines. Emphasizes analytical method and skills. Difficult/ambigusous marker. Got A on Christmas Exam and almost failed April. One of the best TEACHERS at the school, but POOR evaluation methods, but that's because UBC law treats their students like S---. Avoid this law school!

Don't let her looks decieve you! The woman is MEAN! Her teaching style is hard to follow, and unclear. Her exams questions do not represent what she stresses as important during class. Its a total fluke if you do poorly or well on her exams!

You'll either love her or hate her (if you don't do well). Most interesting and thought provoking class. Teaching style was difficult for some but great if you followed it.

Crim law- this prof thinks she is the goddess of crim law-she tries so hard to be politically correct-we learn more about her beliefs on racism than on criminal law. Ok for evidence, but again you have to follow her view of everything or look out.

I really liked her teaching style--very deductive and clear, but also looked for "creative" arguments. Some people just didn't "get" her... and hated the experience...

Totally awful!! She is a very difficult person to follow AND no one ever knows what she is looking for on exams - really, it just makes no sense. Never take a class with her again!!

She is tough and evidence is tougher! Save this class for the end if you can. And keep in mind, you have to know EXACTLY how she wants you to formulate your answers, otherwise....uh oh.

The best prof I had in law school, and the best for crim. Does a great job showing you how to analyse Crim. Code, and using class exercises to come up with creative arguments for both sides. Quirky sense of humour, and a sweet person.

You must understand exactly what and how she expects you to do. No scope for doing it differently. If you can't accept this, don't take her class. She is organized and presents clearly. Good handouts. Very helpful.

A good instructor, BUT read this warning - she seems to be open to different opinions, but actually is not. And I dont even mean opinions that are far from her own - even other feminist opinions can make her freak out. Be careful about that.

Complex material is made even more incomprehensible by an unorthodox teaching method relying on group exercises. My worst experience at law school, thus far.
