I've taken several classes with Doc Stengel. The man is brilliant, funny, incredibly well-informed, and a good teacher if you are willing to make a little effort and pay attention. If you want to really learn the subject, this is the guy to go to.

After 2 years at Peninsula the 4 classes I have taken from him have been my 4 least favorite. His lectures ramble on and he often repeats himself, if his classes were 30 min. long they would be great, unfortunately they're not. He is obviously very knowlegable about his subjects and is great one on one but he should not be teaching lecture classes.

I had high hopes. But it just got more and more dull as class went on. He's definitely smart, and one on one he's great to talk politics with. But he just rambles forever. A friend of mine added up how much he says "right". 136 times in one hour. I wasn't expecting a lecture style class. I was expecting a discussion style.

I really liked Stengel. Although he tends to make a lot of anti-christian and anti-republican comments and examples in his lectures (he is a liberal afterall), I was able to overlook that and really enjoy the class. In fact because of him I'm reading Nichamachean Ethics by Aristotle, when I'm not even in the class.

Pretty cool and interesting guy, although he has a tendency to ramble. My ethics class with him is very easy; he has the exact same test format and gives you a list of what will be on the test, then chooses a select few terms and an essay question for the test, and tells you how to answer each term/essay beforehand.

Awesome class. Stengel is so funny. His stories are awesome and he's very amusing. However after while it can get very boring. Especially if you take the two hour one. OMG the two hour class is soooo boring but still I recommend. He makes a generally boring topic funny. RECOMMENDED

VERY lax and low-kboring teacher. Out of a packed class of ~40+, probably a dozen regularly showed up for lecture. Of those, more than half often took off after the break at the 1 hour mark. The only reason to go to class is to know when papers are due
