Fischer is probably my favorite professor at Vandy so far. He's super interesting in general, keeps you engaged, and really focuses on keeping his course relevant to what's happening in the world. The readings got a little long and esoteric towards the beginning of the course, but just power through and don't worry about understanding every word.

I had him for Anthropology of Globalization, and he could not have been better. He truly cares and is passionate about what he teaches. If you are a humanities major or are passionate about non science things, you will love him. He really goes out of his way for his students. One day he brought free coffee for us to taste test! Participation is key

Great guy. You don't have to read any of the books as long as you go to class and take good notes, but attendance isn't mandatory. 2 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Online blog posts count as your participation. Overall, moderately easy/interesting class to fulfill AXLE behavioral science req.

Professor Fischer is amazing! He tends to jog around when thinking really hard, which is really funny! He does expect a lot from students, including five books and weekly 200 words online responses. But he is extremely helpful and I learned a huge amount from this class! TAs are all very nice! I want to major in Anthropology after this class!

Very engaging and animated. reinforces a lot of the material in his assigned reading. most of the material that he presents will end up on the tests. the one paper he assigns is pretty easy, you just need to integrate sources into a case study (you don't really need research). fairly easy class all things considered.

ONE OF MY FAVORITES. He comes to class and gives a lot thus he expects a lot of you. You have to take excellent notes, but he is one of the most stimulating professors here. He obviously loves his job and that makes you appreciate the subject material. You do have to study a great deal for the tests if you want an A. GREAT CLASS, GREAT TEACHER.

Fischer is very animated and lively...plus he always laughed at his own jokes which I thought was funny. The tests and quizzes are not difficult as long as you go to class and are able to remember details. The paper is the hardest part of the class...be sure and get lots of feedback from your TA on it.

He's pretty wierd and kinds funny! But you HAVE TO GO TO CLASS EVERYDAY and take really good notes because you will be tested on it. Tests an quizzes aren't hard at all you just have to recall all the info he stressed in class. The class was slightly interesting but it's really an easy A for CPLE and AXLE!

Prof. Fischer is entertaining and engaging and is really able to maintain your interest every day. I came in with a mild interest in anthropology and am now contemplating pursuing it in grad school. You MUST go to class and take detailed notes. Tests cover a lot of material but it's all in the lectures so they're not that difficult.

first anthropology class i took and he got me hooked into the major. He is an excellent teacher and lecturer, his readings are well selected to give an interesting overview of anthropology, and he is exceedingly helpful outside of class. well worth 3 hours of any semester.

Very interesting!! Did not want to take anthro, but ended up being one of my favorite classes. Do go to class though, or you may miss specifics, all tests are on SPECIFIC DETAILS, so know them! Each and every one! He's a really nice guy and is obviously well versed on the subject. Loves to teach!

This is a very interesting class. Fischer's own field work and enthusiasm make the lectures very enjoyable. The books were also well-chosen. Hard vocabulary on the tests, though.
