If you are a type A person like me, do not take her. She is all over the place. It is impossible to follow along in class. I had no idea what was going on half of the time. Her tests aren't hard if you study well. Weekly quizzes, readings, and there's occasional homework. She's nice and is a goofball, but her teaching style is not for me.

Probably the best teacher I have taken during my college. You have to sign up to meet with her to speak, if you happen to pop by her door for a quick question 9/10 times she is available and willing to speak with you. She does assign a lot of homework but encourages you to work with others (give them credit). She almost tells you whats on the test.

Beutel is exactly what a teacher should be. She's completely interested in the subject, she keeps students engaged, and always, ALWAYS makes herself available to help students and answer questions. She also makes a real effort to get to know her students and understand them individually. Her workload is completely doable and reasonable.

Dr. Beutel is fantastic. She absolutely loves geology, and it shows! She is easily one of best teachers at this school and one of my top three favorites. If you are interested in geology at all TAKE HER! Some people get upset because she gets off topic easily. Honestly you learn so much cool stuff just from her rants! She's great!

Definitely take Colgan over Beutel. She is really nice and LOVES what she teaches, but she is nuts. She changes her powerpoints after she puts them on WebCT. Everything is out of order and all over the place. She doesn't take attendance, but gives quizzes using clickers usually once a week. Don't need the book at all.

She is wonderful. Easily one of the most helpful and caring professors at CofC. The class focuses less on memorizing facts and more on understanding general concepts of geology. She is extremely helpful if she sees that you're making an effort to do well. Go to the SIs, do the extra credit. I love geology because of Dr. B!

Very hard, but knows what she is doing. A very good teacher. So good that I actually had interest in taking Geol 105. Always happy and in a good mood, but if you cross her, then its your own fault, because you must have done something really stupid

Dr Beutel was the best teacher i ever had at COFC. Her GEO 101 class has been my favorite class my entire college career. You have to take notes and come to class but what do you want, to pay 20 grand to show up and do nothing, if so your dumb. If you still have problems she always answers emails and is in her office during the hours she specifies.

VERY ENERGETIC @ 8AM!! Jumps on desk and goes bizerk to get her point accross. Very funny,easy and clear. Treats class almost like CSI problem. I personally prefer Dr. Carew and his succinct straightforward lectures. But Beutel was great.

I like Beutel a lot - she's very energetic and tons of fun, she's always acting out scientific events for the class. I always find myself looking forward to her class - which is a major achievement at 8 in the morning!!
