Frances is hilarious and clearly LOVES her job. She is a great professor. However, she grades critically, expects participation, theres a ton of reading, and the essays are awful. But she acknowledges the required curriculum is not great and her expectations are clear. If you like English she is a good professor for you. She doesnt use canvas.

The whole class is based around essays and typed responses, so take that into consideration. You also definitely need the textbook/anthologytheres quite a bit of reading. Frances is a great lecturer and she is incredibly passionate about what she teaches. I would definitely take her again.

Comment:

Professor Gibbons is a really tough teacher to have but she gives you every opporitunity to succeed. It is easy to pass her class if you are willing to work hard. The entire class is essay based. She is the only teacher I've ever had that really cares about her students. I disliked all the work at first but she is just such a fantastic teacher.

Her prompts for essays are very unclear and contradictory, but other than that she is an ok teacher. BUT if you are religious, watch FOX news,are a republican or support Trump, this is not your teacher. The main focus on the first half of the semester is on fallacies, which she considers all religion and FOX news to be.

Very difficult class, heavy in discussion however she doesn't lead the conversations well, argues with students during discussion. If you have trouble with analysis you wont pass this class. Heavy in writing responses. Must use textbook or else she will make fun of you in front of the class.

She is very passionate and makes you work for your grade. Definitely not a class for a lazy student. Also be prepared to have a lot of in class discussions and for her to ask you to read your papers to the class. And not that this necessarily affected her teaching but she has a thick accent that was at times hard for me to understand.

Mrs. Gibbons hands down the hardest working teacher in the English department. You will learn how to truly write,site,and think about your readings and writings. She also created her own style of text book which is very impressive,also the amount of writing required isn't for lazy students, this class is for the hard working.

Dr. Gibbons will teach you to write at a college level and you will learn formatting and citing. You can go in and visit her before you turn papers in and she will give you feedback to improve your work. My advice, utilize her office hours if you are unsure of your work.

Dr. Gibbons an absolutely brilliant, stunning professional. Her passion for literature, language, and life is contagious; her humanitarian interests are evident in her ethics and willingness to assist others. She teaches all of her classes using the Socratic Method, and expects only that students reciprocate the amount of dedication she puts forth.

If you want to really get your moneys worth on the education you pay for, TAKE HER CLASS. You will be expected to put effort in (hopefully you expected to do this at some point-you are in college) Funny, inspirational, great lectures, fascinating essay prompts, and Gibbons passionately desires you to see your own potential and succeed.

She is a nice person. Really Likes to help! Definitely go to her office hours if needing help, she will help tremendously. Tough teacher though. Better do all the homework and she makes you work for your grade. Lots of reading and 4 Big papers. Tough class if you aren't that interested but funny and nice teacher.

I really like Dr. Gibbons as a teacher. This being said, my class had weekly reading responses due however she did not collect and grade them this I feel effected the classes potential for good grades on our 3 essays for class. I feel the class would have learned and had a better over all grade if she had corrected and graded weekly assignments.

Frances is phenomenal. She is an extreme advocate of thinking and intelligence. She uses the text and her personal fervor for information analysis and teaching to make a wonderful class. Go to class, take notes and pay attention to discussion and an A should not be an issue. With all of that, the writings will be simple and to her standards :)

Very passionate is an understatement. She is a difficult grader you have to earn a C but is very helpful and strongly encourages you to use office hours.
