Comment:

He's funny but my friend (who's sitting next to me in Patey's Chem 205 class right now) and I are lost 99% of the time. The hw helps, if you do it before class lectures cause then you can kinda follow along. And he gives us wayyyyy more info than we need. We've derived approximately 30000 equations and needed to know 0 derivations for the exams.

Probably the best chem prof, nay, one of the best profs I have ever had. His lectures are excellent and I would recommend going, but he truly shines during his office hours. Funny, friendly and approachable. Now go back to the UBC SSC tab and register in his section. Lastly, he wears socks with sandals; unfazed like the boss that he is. Respect.

I really struggled in this class, but that doesn't reflect Patey's teaching. I don't consider this an easy class. Patey's a great guy though. Super helpful during office hours and a solid lecturer in-class.

Nice and helpful prof and there was only a bit of content where he wasn't too clear on but he would try and explain it during class. Material was easy and if you do all the practice problems and take in the class notes it shouldn't be too much of a problem

Best teacher I've ever had. Gives very comprehensible lectures; I never even opened the book. Many students would join his class even if they were registered for another section-there were always people sitting on the stairs.

Very friendly teacher and tries to be as clear as possible. Very willing to go over sections that are not well understood in class, gives plenty of example problems as well as the complete solutions. Did not have ANY quizzes or mandatory homework. Does not touch the textbook.

Best prof for first year chem! Made me interested in what he was teaching even though chem is definitely not my favourite subject. He explains all the concepts thoroughly and clearly and somehow makes everything seem straightforward and simple. He knows how to keep your attention most of the time and can be quite funny.

Teaches fair and square, really to the point. When you go see him during his office hours, he is very helpful (you can tell that he is interested in this subject matter, unlike some profs). Exams are fair, and if you put effort into this course, you can end up with a good grade despite not doing well on the midterm for example.

An effective prof, gave good notes and explained very clearly during lectures. Exams are do-able and as long as you've attended class and actually studied, you will pass with flying colours. Very funny guy, always wears shorts and sandals.
