Definitely a character. Grade is based on 4 exams, CONNECT, and tax return assignments. Gives out bonus points to raise grades, which come in quite handy! Exams are based on the textbook and are straightforward. Study the textbook up and down!! He is a nice person and will help you if you ask. He is also quite sassy, but means well.

Shak is really funny (in my opinion), and a really nice guy, but not a great lecturer. Tests are VERY difficult even if you study the material up and down. However, he does give a curve on tests and will give out tons of bonus points throughout semester. As others said, speak up in class, get to know him, and your grade could see a huge curve.

Comment:

Real nice guy (if you're on his good side) despite the grumpy grandpa persona. Exams are brutal, neither the lectures nor reading each chapter 2-3 times will prepare you for them. Be aware though, the raw score you receive on your exams and assignments doesn't correlate with your final grade. Get on his good side, you could see a pretty big curve

Professor Shakun is very knowledgeable when it comes to tax. He tells a lot of real life stories to help students understand the material and is generally very entertaining. Tests are tough but he puts extra points on them (For example, 115 points but grades it based on 100 points) . Overall great professor but tough class.

Shakun is one of my favorite professors. He's really good at teaching and uses real world examples in his class. Tests can be a little difficult especially if you aren't an accounting major. Definitely have to read the book and do the online homework. Would still take him again though.

The first thing you notice about Shakun is that he's very funny in a sarcastic way. What takes a little longer to realize is how genuine and caring he is. He helped me when I didn't deserve it. He makes class interesting and big part of the grade are the HW but the biggest are the tests and those are the hardest so take easy pts where you can.

Shakun is the self-described 'pick of the litter' for Managerial Accounting. Shakun is very funny in class- while his stinging sarcasm might seem intimidating at first, he is a truly kind and caring man. Homework, while there is a lot of it, is crucial for success. Tests are difficult. If you're willing to take the class seriously, take Shakun.

This is my FAVORITE professor. This class is hard if you don't show up. Tests are difficult but if you're motivated to do well, you'll pass. 5 Tests, Connect & Learnsmart, & a group project. SUPER helpful professor, uploads to blackboard but he DOES take attendance every day. Super funny and caring & super laid back. Easy A if you like this subject

Shakun is the most helpful professor I have ever met. His exams are hard, most do not do well on them, but he wants everyone to pass so he assigns more work. I needed help on the tax return hw, so he gave me his cell phone number and helped me through the phone. Read, study and do the work, and you will pass. Miss one of these and you will fail.

First of all GOD BLESS THIS MAN, this man helped me when I did not deserve it. The class overall is not very difficult but you DEFINITELY need to do the work. VERY strong emphasis on doing the online homework, you will not pass without it. He's kind of a hard ass and a little intimidating but he is honestly a great professor and will help you out.

Professor Shakun is a tax genius. This is a senior class, but you will be ok if you do what he tells you to do. Show up to the class , read the chapter he assigned, and do the online homework, then you will have an A. He let you exempt your final if you doing well in the tests, tax return and homeworkers. Will take his class again.

Professor Shakun is a peculiar knowledgeable individual for sure. However, this class has material for 1 year of studies, at least. You have to actually read all the chapters assigned to understand the content properly. The exams are very hard, BUT if you attend class, do homework, assignments and show interest, you will most likely do well.

He tells you at the beginning of the semester that his tests are hard, and they are. Accounting is not easy no matter who you take but Shakun is really helpful if you need extra help. Make sure you do all the online homework because it really boosts your final grade. Project is time consuming but straightforward. I'd take Shakun again for sure.

Comment:

Took him for income tax. He has his own firm and he will make connections to the material from it. The class should probably be open book because it has TONS of if/that/then scenarios because tax law is complicated. Read the assigned chapters and make sure he knows your name and participate as much as possible and you will do fine.
