Dr. Grapenthin is amazing as a piano teacher, despite her focus being organ. She is there with you every step of the way, and is very understanding of anything that comes up. She works with you no matter what your level of experience in music is, and she attunes the class to where you are. I could not possibly ask for a better professor.

Dr. Grapenthin is lovely. While the class was a little tough, I enjoyed it a lot, and I enjoyed having occasional conversations with her. She's a very interesting person if you get to know her. I would and am taking her again!

She is the worst teacher ever. She literally stands there with a microphone and talks. No one paid attention and literally the whole class failed every test. Whatever you do DO NOT TAKE HER. SHE IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE.

I had her for basic skills and concepts of music. While she was a very nice professor, the subject was very difficult to understand for someone with no prior experience. She understood that a lot of us had no idea what we were doing, but couldn't dumb it down and further. She is VERY helpful and offers retests. Very nice lady.

Very confusing professor. I have extensive musical experience and even I get confused. Does not teach how to read music, although it is not a prerequisite for the class but is necessary for success. I do not reccommend taking her.

The class was....I don't know how to explain it. She doesn't really explain things well and then the whole class does bad on a test and she gives the whole class a retest. She always allows you to come by her office if you need help. But overall she's a good teacher.

She knows a lot about teaching elementary kids. Her classes are very practical and usefull. She will give good feedbacks, but I think many people don't understand that this is what a professor is supposed to do, so some people don't appretiate her as they should.

She's a great lady. Not that good of a prof though. I had prior music experience, and I still had to teach myself everything before each test. You really need to have prior music experience before taking her classes, and a lot of patience. Maybe even a tutor. Tests were not easy, but still got a B. Good luck, you'll need it!

Very unclear about anything. Handed back assignments 4 weeks after we turned them in. Makes me want to vomit everytime I am in that class. By far the most uninspiring teacher I have had. I have learned something in the class...shes the model of what not to be when you teach.

Dr. Grapenthin is THE BEST! Even though I haven't had her in college (yet) I have been studing piano with her for wuite some time. She hasn't only helped me with music but she has helped me get throught a lot of other issues I came across. I HIGHLY recomend her she helped me with A LOT and I am sure she will help you to! Shes so nice!!!

A pretty easy teacher, IMO. A lot of people had trouble with her however. She really means well and I don't recommend taking this course if you don't have any musical background. Could have made it only slightly clearer, but there was tons of material to go through.

She is nice, but she is EXTREMELY "loopy." She forgets things all the time and even changed her teaching topic mid-sentence into something totally unrelated! It's pretty scary. It can be very frustrating. If you have other options for piano, I would strongly consider them.

An excellent private lesson instructor! Very understanding, always willing to help, a wonderful lady all around, and an amazing pianist/organist. I've had her in class as well, and she is one of the music department's best professors!
