Professor Giblin is very knowledgeable, communicative, and easy to get along with. Expects his class to be respectful. His classes are challenging, but won't dominate your semester (well-calibrated). You will learn a lot.

I enjoyed taking Prof. Giblin's class. He makes it very clear what he expects from you. Pay attention in class and during discussion and the test will be much easier. Also, come to class prepared and ready to talk, he will like you much more if you are willing to give answers and participate

Protip: many of the required readings are online or in the school lib. Saves money when you can't afford 7 books. Good teacher, but come to class prepared. Can be an intense class but super duper interesting, and he wants to hear your opinion instead of just talk over you. He's gaht a wicked Bahstan accent too

The assignments are easy but readings are a must. He hints to when there will be quizzes but they are basically graded as all or nothing. He randomly yelled at everyone in the class for no reason and would single out students on a daily basis. Watched movies everyday that weren't in English and hard to follow along. He's intense.

He is a great teacher, and as long as you do the readings in his class, and actually attend lecture, you are guaranteed an A. Doesn't sound too difficult, does it? Keep in mind that if you are not interested in Africa history, you should probably not take the class. It is a wonderful class though! 16w:121 is great too!

Professor Giblin is an amazing professor. This is a class I'd recommend to anyone. African history is a subject that is unfortunately unappreciated and not as known as it should be, and Professor Giblin is very intelligent and can present a very captivating meta-narrative. Fair amount of reading, but it's worth it (At least for history majors).
