Good guy, not so great professor. He laughed at a student in class when they did not offer the correct answer. He does not explain things very well and you are better off skipping class and teaching yourself the material because if you understand Calculus he will make it worse and you will not understand when he is done explaining.

MA1021 is based off of four exams (out of 90), a final (out of 135), and 7 labs (worth 35). The total number of points needed to get an A in the class is 480/530. However, 477/530 is 90%. The next problem with the class is homework. The homework in this class is non-existent and you need to teach yourself out of the book to get a good grade.

He's a nice guy but cannot follow along in class to the point where it is probably better to just teach yourself and not go to class. Everyone in my class has the same opinion.

Really nice guy but not the best teacher. He gives a lot of suggested practice problems (doesn't collect or grade) that closely resemble those asked on his quizzes. Lectures were really confusing - pretty much just went through the book and taught it to myself..

I definitely respect this guy. His lectures were very clear, and the problems on quizzes were straight out of the assigned list from the book. Homework isn't checked but it's in your best interest to do it. He drops the lowest quiz grade.

There is no homework only recommended practice problems, and usually questions on the quizzes are taken right from them. He sometimes gets confusing when explaining some examples, but overall he teaches very well. On the quizzes if you don't do the work in the way he specified you will get points marked off. Overall nice guy, and good professor.

JJ is the man! An awesome person to talk to, he has some calculus puns that will make you groan. as a teacher, his examples sometimes get a bit muddied in the explanations. He doesn't have homework in the class, which means the quizzes are worth a lot. His quizzes are just problems taken from the "suggested practice problems" or other finals.

Quizes weren't bad, but he was not very good about grading them. If you used a technique you learned at MASH or in HS instead of in his class, you got no credit. Do that again on a 4 question quiz, that pretty much quaranteed a fail.

Very good prof, organized lectures and very good at teaching calc. Makes things very easy for you when explaining things and lets you know where you are in the class and is willing to give outside help. Would reccomend this guy over any other math teacher in the dept.

I understood Calculus just fine before I took this bozo's class. He insisted on correcting everyone's "misconceptions" and taught things all back-asswards - ened up with a NR after having passed AP calc in HS

Grandpa JJ....He's a funny guy, and he really wants his students to do well. He even taught the conferences himself. Although his homework is optional, most of the test questions come straight from the homework, so its to your advantage to do them.
