This class is his baby, and he does a great job with it. He covers a vast amount of material, and everything compounds on itself as the class moves forward. He will call on you with questions every lecture to see how well you are following. To him, the final is a way of judging how much you learned in the class.

Grenestedt teaches the second half of this course. He has a tough exterior, but he genuinely wants each student he teaches to fully understand where material comes from. He will never collect an assignment, instead I think he wants everyone to work hard throughout their semester. To see how you much you learned, he makes his final very tough.

He is a tough tough grader. If you take this class, you have to be okay with not getting an A and really enjoy the subject matter. Dont be afraid to ask questions, regardless of what your instincts tell u. I enjoyed his class because I enjoyed his teaching style. He focuses on understanding everything on a conceptual level which is a vital skill.

I took his class. He will tell you what tools to use to solve a problem, which you probably already know. But never tells you how to solve a problem. I found this guy to be a racist. Avoid at any cost.

He thinks he's so smart, he doesn't have time to talk to you. I had the hardest time trying to get him to meet me, and when I finally saw him he made fun of me instead of answering my questions. He admits at the beginning of the semester there's no partial credit.

Comment:

Tough class in terms of hw, tests, and quizzes, but the quality of the material and lectures more than makes up for it. He is extremely intelligent and tries to get his students to think and figure things out. Took the class to an aircraft cemetary and the NASM in Washington D.C. Got a bad grade, but I learned a lot and that's what matters.

One of the smartest men in the world...literally. Horrible grader, averages around 20% are good. Confusing projects, impossible exams, pop quizzes, and randomly calls people to the board. He will attempt to teach you, but he might as well be speaking swedish. (google pics of him for unicycle pic) and he was talked about on the history channel

Comment:

He absolutely knows his stuff. He derives everything from scratch, which in most cases is a good thing. He expects students to grasp concepts immediately upon introduction. Exams are very difficult, with emphasis on application of concepts. Don't take his courses to fill credit requirements. Take his courses if you genuinely want to learn.

Teaches poorly. Has a real ego and doesn't seem to respect his students. Expects you to learn when he doesn't explain well and changes what's being taught from the text so you can't refer to it and it's proofs without confusing yourself. Grade averages are always below 50%. Horrible

Somewhat easy material made difficult by testing including derivation of concepts. Increadibly knowledgeable professor and he knows it. Very clear and shows where any concept comes from, but at times gives derivations beyond what the student really needs. Also has problems communicating class reqs.

Don't be asleep in class or he will wake u up and ask the most horrible question ever. 'Understand' every concept and equation, and you might get 10/30 in your first exam(average is always lower than 10/30). His final is one of the worst in the department...BUT he is the one of the brightest prof.
