Best. Professor. Ever! I especially adored her medical sociology class, even though Science, Tech, and Power was also extremely interesting. Wish she would come back. ;( Slevin got me interested in soc, but if not for KJ, I probably would've discontinued it.

Comment:

Theory seemed in many ways to be the classic example of what education should be. If accused of liberal bias, she'd accept on principle, and the principle is solid. Wheither you're into Durkheim or Marx or Bourdieu and Foucault, this class builds the sociologist soul: because we've never been about not reading stuff that makes us regretful.

For goodness sake, make SURE you are a liberal before you take this class. I have never so blatantly been taught someone's opinion without them admitting it. It's fine if you agree, but the little "discussions" she holds are actually deep conversations on why you're wrong and she's enlightened.

Theory was awesome, the reading was almost always exciting, and the professor was dedicated to helping the class understand the theorists. Not much room for personal opinions, since you're reading theory.

Really interesting class, but mostly involves reading a lot of different theorists. The books can be hard to get at first, but with a little explanation it becomes really clear, and the group discussions let you talk it through until you get it. Biggest problem is the vague grading.

Took the first Technology and Society class with her. EXCELLENT!! Seminar class everyone took turns at bringing goodies to eat, and the material was REALLY interesting. She is one of the best professors I have had so far!
