Definitely not the best professor I ever had, but definitely not the worse. He explains the material clearly and goes through examples. His tests aren't crazy and he gives you study guides. My only complant is the pace. His lectures are fast and are a lot to take in, but it's not the worse things ever.

You will be misled by previous reviews. He is an awful professor that questions your intelligence when you get a wrong answer on the board. He is not a kind professor, he is way too hard, and he teaches the material too quick but wastes time in class. I would strongly not recommend you take him if at all possible. I wish i could give a score of 0.

Dr Yao's lectures are easy to follow and understand. He does many example problems on the board and will single out students to solve problems on the board. The tests are fairly easy if you take good notes in class.

Dr. Yao is a nice person. Calculus II is hard, need a lot of practices. He did so many practices during the class. He is very helpful. I will take his Cal 3-Math 2134.

Comment:

Yao is one of the best professors i've ever had. He's so weird but also a genius. He makes sure to prepare you very well for the departmental final. His exams are also very easy if you take notes every class. Quizzes are difficult though but I think that's because of his TERRIBLE teaching assistant. But overall I highly recommend him.

Comment:

Yao is the best math lecturer I have had at UNO. He explains thoroughly and repeats himself sufficiently. The material is tough and I still need to read very hard, but never has a professor explained or organized things as carefully as Yao. (He is so clever that he doesn't need lecture notes! And his handwriting is beautiful.)

Comment:

Dr. Yao was a decent teacher. The prime benefit to his class is the tremendous curve at the end. I mad grades ranging from upper 90s to lower 30s on tests and still got a B. Do the homework and give an honest attempt at the quizzes and tests, and you should at least make a C without a hitch. Likely better than that though.

Took for 2114 and 2124. He expects you to put effort in his classes and singles people out to do problems. It's intimidating but he does this because he truly wants you to understand the material. Very accommodating as well if you got RL issues going on. Only wished the HW was more relevant to tests; doesn't prepare you enough at all.

I have taken 3 classes with Dr. Yao and have done well. His tests are hard but if you actually take the time to understand the material they shouldn't be difficult. You need to put effort into his class, especially the online homework. Great professor and willing to help when he's available. Im differential equations with him semester.

Showed up on time for class about 2 times during the semester; he usually arrived 5-15 minutes late, Monday-Friday. His lectures are thorough and straightforward, and Yao is very clear about what he expects you to know. Homework doesn't always perfectly align with lecture material. Course is easy to pass if you put in the work.

I've failed many of his tests, but there's one thing he is good at is preparing you for the final. The last week of every semester I've had with him, he puts you through a crash course of calculus from basics to end. I used that method for regular tests for other classes now. Oh yeah and his English isn't that great. But who cares it's math

Awesome professor! His accent is heavy but easy to understand and easy to get used to. He doesn't collect quizzes because they're your study guides for tests that are similar if you understand how to do the problems. He also curves huge at the end of the semester.

Great teacher. Explains concept and material well, and is willing to answer questions whenever.Homework was online this semester, which is a first for Yao I believe. Tests are pretty difficult, and his final is one of the hardest I've taken. He does curve though.
