He is a great prof. Best discussions I've ever had. Great at teaching social theories. Don't know about his other classes.

Khaldoun is more of a student than a teacher. He assigns great readings and designs courses that are really fascinating, but he is not a very interesting discussion leader and tends to assign too much work in too little time. I once had four days to write a 10 page paper for his populism course. Take his class for content, not the lively discussion

Khaldoun's a nice guy, but he kind of doesn't care any more. He really doesn't do anything, just sits back and assigns readings and browses the papers he makes you turn in (Sometimes, I'm not sure that he even fully reads them). Nice guy, chill, but very lazy and not super inspiring.

Wonderful teacher, very interesting life that he uses to explain concepts in class. Class is lead by student discussions based on readings done for class (lots of reading nightly) but Khaldoun does a great job of leading discussions and introducing new ideas. Participation is a must and put a lot of thought into the response papers!

Khaldoun is just about the nicest professor you'll ever have. He's super helpful and always willing to meet with people. I wasn't a huge fan of the structure of the class sometimes (I would've liked more lecture and less discussion) but he's also very open to feedback and will adjust based on what the students like. Definitely recommended!

I'm a huge Khaldoun fan. I've had him for multiple classes. He chooses great readings, is obviously passionate about the material and knows his stuff well. He can be a 'love him or hate him' professor, but personally I think he's great. Also for what it's worth I've never heard anyone say that his classes aren't interesting.

You either love or hate him... Course structure different than usual courses by other profs. Harder to do well than expected: very unclear about expectations. Grades most assignments at end of term so you don't have feedback to improve on. Rambles. "Role-playing" assignments & exams. Incorporated extracurricular elements, eg films & Occupy march.

Good prof. I had him for Islam and the West. The class didn't cover what I expected it to, but I really enjoyed the material. He's fair and personable. Just make sure to have your own thoughts for the response papers. And prepare for texts with the materials he provides. It's helpful

So much reading. I had his class as a night class; It was awful. He's ok as a teacher. A little harsh though. Definitely likes his own ideas.

He is a very good professor with a lot of enthusiasm in what he teaches, and makes sure that you get a wholestic perspective on what he teaches. "Secularism and Its Discontents" was one of my favorite classes of all time.

I was excited about him as a teacher at first, because he is kind outside of class but he gives no freedom in terms of writing papers and uses his own ideas too much. Does not let students write their own theses, instead, imposes his. He also relies too much on group presentations in week long sections that are difficult to schedule without giving

Take this course. Its one of the best courses I've taking at Mac in the two years I have been here. The prof's lectures and remarks are brilliant. My only issue is that he should lecture more because it is truly the highlight of the class.

Prof. teaches on controversial topics but is able to keep things cool in class. Discussion leads to interesting and free debates. His daily assignments are lots of work but are quite helpful. I really enjoyed this course.

This guy has a lot of freshmen fooled. They think he is great because he teaches on subjects that are new and exciting to recent college students, but to veterans of sociology and social theory, he is inept. He lacks teaching skills, the ability to control a classroom, and sensitivity to issues of gender. He often comes across as ****.

He is a fun professor who leads good class discussions. Some people get confused by his class but I like it. He wears cute little hats and talks about his pet cats quite a bit. Sometimes the class gets tedious but I think Samman makes the most of it.
