One of the best professors I've had at BU. Made the subject enjoyable, and gave out enough work to master the language without making it feel like busywork. She gives extensive comments and corrections on assignments, but isn't a harsh grader and gives opportunities for you to learn from your mistakes. I would highly recommend her for LJ212.

Very nice lady. Really cares about students. Is good at explaining the subtle difference between similar grammars. Will answer your questions almost any time, though she is pretty busy with all the departmental work and Japanese-related events. If you put in efforts, taking LJ303 with her will be a rewarding experience.

So cheerful all the time and really wants to get students involved with Japanese outside of the classroom (always recommends events, sometimes in ways that incorporate the material we're learning). Incredibly sympathetic to situational difficulties too. *disclaimer* Class (LJ303)is NOT easy - get ready to study for the practically-daily quizzes!

Very nice lady. She is more liberal in her way of presenting the material as opposed to the usual textbook & exercise approach. She is very engaging and actively encourages students to participate. Tests are fair, and very manageable, but short, so study hard and be very pedantic to avoid losing points. Really cares about you learning Japanese.

Great professor who obviously cares that you learn the materials right. She tries to make sure you have fun in class as well. The fieldtrips were a definite plus. Workload is pretty heavy but it is expected from 5th level Japanese class.

Third year Japanese is no cakewalk indeed. You have to put a lot of work into this class; there are quizzes almost every class, regular chapter tests, homeworks, and a couple of compositions. However, as a teacher, Henstock is very understanding and accommodating. The work is there to make us learn, and in the end it helps. Recommended.

Itoh-sensei is a good Japanese professor. She is definitely enthusiastic about her job, but she has very high standards and grades pretty hard. Take her LJ281 class if you can, it's very fun. But, if you are looking for a less-stressful 3rd year Japanese class, try another professor.

Professor Henstock is great. She won't pamper you, but if you do the work and push yourself, she's on your side. I took 3rd yr Japanese from her, and she is a really tough grader, and can sometimes move a little too fast. Extremely nice and fair...never boring. I highly recommend her.
