Well-prepared lectures. Tests mathiness, lacks creativity, unhelpful, and mostly condescending. Do well in hwks because midterms get a major portion from hwks.

I took the flipped style circuits and would highly recommend it. The first time I took the class i got a 21% on the first exam and dropped immediately. The second time I took it flipped and did so much better. Definitely go to office hours or tutoring if you are struggling because it is a HUGE help. I would definitely take a class with him again.

Comment:

Mark is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. Although he may go off on tangents, and may be a tough grader at times, he has something that other proffessors don't: charisma. He commands the rooms attention without saying a word. When the words escape his mouth, it is like glorious thunder grazing through the sky. I recommend his class alot

Really nice guy, is very enthusiastic about his lectures. You need to put in the effort, but he genuinely wants his students to do well and is very accessible. A little scatterbrained, but totally relatable. Would definitely take again.

Andersland taught the flipped class this year in the TILE room. I, personally, liked this more because you learn more about how to do the problems because you are solving some each day in class with help from TAs and Andersland. Don't worry about solving all the in-class stuff, it's only 2% of your grade. See the TAs when you get stuck on HW

I took circuits flipped the first semester it was offered this way. It was unfortunate he is the flipped class since he is supposedly a good lecturer. In class you do not learn any material. You watch videos outside of class and then inclass you have to attempt to do problems from what you learned from the video. take with andersen its less work.

Do not ask him questions because he will only respond with another question. His tests were made to be impossible by having 7 multiple choice questions including the positive and negative values of all answers. He tried to flip the class but I can honestly say I did not learn a single thing in this class

Lectures are fairly interesting and you'll generally learn a lot from them, great analogies too. That said: Going to office hrs will leave you more confused than beforehand. Prepare to spend a lot of time on HW. Exams cover HW material but asked in much different fashions than anything said in class. Avgs around 50%. For Comm Net, get Kuhl instead.

Is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. His excitement can make the class more interesting. He does have a tendency to go off on a tangent and waste a quarter of a class once in a while. He expects a lot of students, but that's not an all bad thing.

Was late by at least 5 minutes every class. Fumbled through lectures making many mistakes along the way. The only teacher I've had in college that still writes on overheads. After the first midterm I stopped going to class and just read the book. It was much more helpful than he ever was.

gets harder as you go along. tests are straightforward. he says he has been making tests easier every year. lectures are key. did not bother reading book until the last part (because i missed some lectures). set up appointments. always go to him after you get your tests back as he is generous in giving points for mistakes you made.
