If youre new, Mark will encourage you and help you to express yourself. If youre experienced, he knows his stuff and can help you refine your craft. He has the perfect personality for teaching. Hes understanding, knowledge, and patient. Ive had 4-5 different drawing/painting instructors at PCC and Mark might the best.

Mark is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is truly compassionate and has a gentle energy. He will give you as much guidance as you ask for, so don't be afraid to ask for help. He will never try to make you feel inadequate. He helped me tremendously with my painting skills, I took four of his classes. He is a thoughtful/amazing person.

Don't take this class if you have little experience with painting because he will teach you little about it and you will be expected to create a masterpiece. He does give demos but most of the time it was him mixing paint and looking at images on Google. He had a field trip and it was icy outside and he still had people go.

He changed everything on the supply list so when I got to class on the first day, I didn't even need half the stuff I already bought. His demos are way too long and boring. His assignments are hard and he judges art work to critically. Don't take this class if you want to have fun.

Very nice guy. Helpful and funny, but doesn't really teach. You sorta need to know how to paint or have artistic abilities before taking this class. He is there to answer any and all questions and is a very pleasant teacher. One paper at the end, one field trip. Fun assignments.

Great teacher and very talented painter! Mark is the perfect art teacher. He is strict enough with the assignments where it challenges your abilities yet lenient enough where you can be very creative. If you ask him for help you will never regret it. He gives great painting advice!

Mark is a fantastic teacher. He is a real asset to students and the school. I have taken Mark's classes for 3 terms as my " fun" class and am amazed at how much I learn every class and at the results of my projects. He gives personal attention to all of his students, shares his incredible knowledge and talent joyfully. Very gifted artist & teacher.

Mark Smith is an amazing teacher. He will teach you great techniques that will truly improve your skills. I have taken a painting class with him twice and every time every person in the class greatly improved. It is not a difficult class but it is also not a class to slack off in, but it is a blast!

Mark's watercolor class was wonderful. He is helpful and clear, and great at teaching technique. Watercolor can be tricky because there are several ways you can apply the paint, and his goal was to get us feeling comfortable with all the techniques. Recommended highly!

I took two of his painting classes and I was a first time painter and very nervous. He gives 4 to 5 paintings to complete. He walks you through what you want done. He gives very interesting yet challenging projects that push you to improve. I'd recommend him to anyone. Loved his class!

I could not paint or draw before I took his class. By the end of the class I was so confident and thrilled with my work. 4-5 paintings are the usual amount to complete. I took his class twice and now have a strong interest in art! Great teacher!!! My only complaint are classes are overfilled. :)

Mark is Great! He has a way of articulating things that makes them very clear and easy to understand. It's difficult to explain things about how water mixes with paint and appears on paper, but he finds the right words. Mark is a must for anyone who is serious about building their art skills, no matter the medium. Best art teacher I've ever had!

Mark is very helpful! I wasn't sure about art classes, but mark really made the technical side of being creative fun! I feel like I have a strong foundation to build on. Learned and accomplished more in this class than I ever have on my own. He always has something nice to say, and always has constructive criticism. highly recommended!

Who could ever give Mark an unhappy face!? Mark is incredibly helpful, thoughtful and patient teacher. I took Painting 2 and Life Painting with him and have improved greatly in both technique and direction. He is very knowledgeable of current and past artists, and an impressively talented artist himself. I would take any class he teaches. ^_^*

Was very frustrating, gave hard projects for Painting 1 class. Didn't explain techniques, or color mixing. Never sure of what grade you were getting until final.
