Comment:
Mike was a good professor. The problem was the enormous amount of material to learn in the BB 49x courses. They think everyone has tons of time to learn like 15 long chapters per term. Tests were not easy, but fair. Grading is hell though. Your grade is in relation to everyone else's. If you're below the average (which may be high) you get a C/D.

Comment:
Schimerlik teaches well but there were some definite problems with his course. First, there was WAY too much material. About half of what we were expected to know for the Final was covered in the last 2-3 weeks. Schimerlik has horrid handwriting; he needs to use Powerpoint. Getting an A is hard but a B or C is not; you have to just put the time in.

Grades on tests will look like crap but since an 80% is usually the mark he sets for an "A" it is very possible to get the "A". Usually 80% of the test is almost exactly like the practice tests and then 20% is different and very difficult. But study and you will get it right or at least get partial...I Did...I got an "A" hahahaha

Tough class...better than most professors in the biology and chemistry subjects. Exams are fair...look at the past exams which are in the class notes. They will help.

He is the worst chemistry teacher I have ever had, hands down!! He is boring, goes way too fast over difficult mechanisms, and his tests are 10X harder than the practice tests he gives you. Unless you're good at teaching yourself biochemistry, don't take his class.

This was the easiest of the bb490 series. He's a tad boring but as long as you learn how to do the past tests you should be fine. Don't let the pace of the first few weeks give you a sense of false security. The pace gets ridiculous at the end of the term.

hardest prof. i've ever had in my three years of college. extremely nice and warm. enormous amts of lecture topics to cover within a few weeks. impossible to feel confident prior to walking in for an exam. HARD! must be 150% committed to take his course.

He knows his stuff, tests are reasonable; the CLASS is tough b/c of LOTS of content; not his fault. The main problem is his handwriting; other than that, the tests are fair given the main concepts you need to know. No tricks or gimmicks on tests.

The class builds momentum through the first 6 weeks. The last weeks, the information is monumentous. However, you can keep up and learn the material if you put the time in. It is possible to do well in the class. Study old tests and do the homework.

I had him for BB 490/590. He's not a bad teacher for this class. Tests moderately hard, not impossible. Needs to use Powerpoint, his handwriting sucks. I hear from all who have him for BB 451 in Spring term that it is deadly. Take it during Winter term.

if you can't read his handwriting, just give up on the class. you spend half the class trying to read his notes and half the class trying to decipher what he's saying--that is, when you're not falling asleep.

The pace of this class is rediculous. So fast that you can't learn. The lectures are horrid, he reads his notes so fast that you can't absorb it. The test was a joke to even show up for. Way too much info covered to beable to even study.

He expects you to absolutely memorize all of his 108 pages of chicken scratch class notes so you can probably get about a 50% if you're lucky on his impossible exam.

Comment:
His notes were key to the class, not the text in this case. Memorize mechanisms. Don't skip, his lectures decipher the horribly handwritten notes as mentioned previously. Good luck.
