Professor Roberts is a nice happy old man who knows more about history than anyone you will ever meet. You can learn a lot from him if you just listen in class. If you occasionally read and put a little effort into the papers, you'll get an A.

Such a sweet person. Incredibly knowledgable. On top of his stuff. Lectures are unorganized, just him speaking. If you are prone to falling asleep, beware. But if you cant take the time to listen to this man, then take a shot on it. Really a man from another time, we are so lucky to have him in our institution.

Brilliant professor. His perspectives on the questions are interesting and unique. He doesn't like to tell students the answer directly. And sometimes his words may not seem even relevant, but if you actually think about it, everything he said is relevant and could lead you to think further. Fair grader. Definitely will take again.

Wandering, complicated lectures with little class participation & no slides or videos - just his voice. I found them fascinating, but if you're prone to falling asleep in class, he may not be your best bet. Actually reads every paper and gives good feedback, but doesn't grade harshly. The readings are less necessary than he would have you believe.

He is probably the best professor I ever had in my four years. Always there to help if you are a serious student. His talks a lot about other things related to the readings in class but they were all fun and useful (like historical context etc.). His test are never so hard and he give out As if you made an effort.

Professor Roberts is kind and passionate about east asian studies. The grading is dependent on the TA and going to the classes does not help you with the essays questions(which determines your grade), but he was truly an inspiring professor. I recommend this class only if you are truly passionate about the course, however.

This man...haha. Hes very old, and is super sweet. He struggles with staying focused and not going on tangents, he doesnt have a syllabus, and assigns writing assignments which no one knows whether or not they are actually graded. Great guy, not a hard class, no recitation...I recommend it.

I took his Historial Epics of China and Japan class, and it was one of the most enjoyable Gen Ed. class I've ever taken. Prof Roberts was very knowledgable and knew so much about different cultures. He is also great at tying back to contemporary issues. I highly recommend this class, but I would try to take a Chinese class beforehand.

Moss Roberts is kind of a big deal. He wrote the definitive translations of all our class material, and it was a privilege being his student. His lectures are accessible, and his grading is fair. Take anything with him, he's wonderful.

He's such a nice and cute old man.. you just want to hug him. Super knowledgeable, passionate, well-read and opinionated. Can be hard to follow b/c he digresses a lot, but his digressions are interesting if you follow current events. Don't take the class if you're not genuinely interested in Chinese philosophy

He is very boring and disorganized. Always goes on tangents. I have to try so hard to stay awake in class. I was very unhappy with the class and the professor even though I received a good grade. Not a difficult class, but VERY painful.

Dumbest class I've taken. MAP is the worst idea and hinders students so badly. His lectures are only good for finding out when tests are. You can get away with BSing the essays by finding summaries of the readings online. Grading wasn't as easy as it should've been for such useless garbage.

I took chinese poetry with Prof ROberts, had a phenomenal time, he is brilliant and very well versed on asian cultures or just EVERYTHING in general. the poetry class is pretty straightforward, easy grading, fun class, i learned a lot about chinese grammar and how to decipher poetry, something that is pretty hard! =]

Prof. Roberts is so intelligent. He relies on the text, but pulls political information from today in order to relate the text with the modern world. One must have a sense of irony and wit in order to enjoy his humor. If you don't find the class funny or interesting, then you probably do not understand it. His Chinese Phil. was great.

He digresses, but he's amazingly intelligent and definitely knows his material. His knowledge is incredible, but there will be a lot of reading required for the course. One of the most interesting individuals you will find.
