TONS of group projects/presentations that aren't worth much points wise but are a pain to coordinate. Not a really work-heavy class but she's so all over the place and doesn't know how much time certain projects will take so sometimes you'll go a week without doing things and then sometimes youll spend 2 hrs on french a night. Smart and knows a lot

Great class. The subject matter was very interesting and applicable. Get to take a final test to certify you to work in French corporations. The class is very laid back and she is a very understanding and flexible teacher. Brings her dog and food to class sometimes. Lots of petty assignments/busy work at times but overall great teacher and class.

Dieu-Porter is a great professor who made me really enjoy Advanced Conversational French. The class is very fun to be a part of because she incorporates a lot of different types of activities such as you tube videos, online articles, textbook work, short presentations, and group oral exams. Overall I loved the course and it wasn't too hard as well.

Comment:

Mme Dieu-Porter was a good professor. Exams weren't too tricky as long as you prepared the way she told you to. Class was interesting and she used a variety of activities (YouTube videos, online games, textbook exercises) to keep the class engaged. She does not stick to her syllabus whatsoever and sometimes dumps homework on you at the last minute.

Professor Porter is a cool person but only a decent teacher. Class is very much based on movies and the idea of identity. You have to watch a movie outside of class about every other week and then you'll have lots of class discussion, and relatively easy quizzes on them. Many short papers assigned. Lots of busy work but not a hard class overall

Very kind and fun professor, but very picky with grammar. Does not grade very easily on papers, and there are lots of them. Four compositions, about weekly journals. She assigns a lot of grammar homework that gets tedious and the tests can be challenging but overall I learned a lot.

Really nice professor, gives a lot of homework. The homework's not too hard, but it's pretty tedious. She grades papers kind of hard, but tests and quizzes aren't bad at all. I would take her class again

This class is challenging but Prof Porter is a nice and interesting teacher. Study a lot for the tests. Don't take this class unless you are very comfortable with french (I recommend not until after you've studied abroad). Best for people who are MHS/pre-med.

She's really fun in class, but a picky grader. She catches vocab and grammar errors thoroughly, so your grades might be a little lower than expected, but she's a fun professor and so is the class. She's also very understanding when it comes to other conflicts.

Comment:

Nice as far as teachers go and easy to get along with. Although department attendance policies are somewhat strict, she'll let you get away with skipping quizzes, oral exams and class if you talk to her. However, don't let her friendly demeanor fool you - she's somewhat a hard grader and you'll almost certainly get half a grade lower than expected.

Porter is an awesome professor! Her class may be challenging but if you keep up with the homework and class participation, an A- shouldn't be difficult to get. It might seem like she gives too much extra work, but in the end it all pays off. I learned more in her class than I did after 4 years of high school french.

I had this professor for several classes between 01 and 05. She ended up being my advisor because I loved her so much. The "French for Business" class has come in handy in the real-world as I now work and live in Paris. This professor is amazing. You will LOVE her.

I love her....at first I was a little worried...STUDY for the vocab tests...some movies are good, others are...interesting...use language correcteur in Language Lab for cahiers...tests are easy if you're comfortable with your group members...

Be ready to work in this class. She will give you lots of work, but just know that it serves a purpose. She is a good teacher (theres a reason why she was voted best teacher in A&S), and she will be very helpful inside and outside of class. Intelligent conversation. Controversial issues discussed in her class. Obviously, she is the best. Too bad other professors do not learn from her! She is so helpful and my oral skills really improved. I should add that there is a lot of work though which is ok because the results show.
