Good god, he could not have made a 101 class more difficult. He teaches like he's teaching a graduate class and he doesn't dumb anything down. When he introduces a topic, he doesn't preface or define anything he just goes. Reading will help but if you're not prepared to keep up, get one on one tutoring.

He is a very nice guy and easy to talk to but can't teach very effectively. He is much too smart for an introductory course. He talks as if you should know everything before you come in. He often teaches problem and answer not having anything to tie it all together, I found myself and others teaching ourselves the material. I would not recommend.

Comment:
This professor is not great for lower level classes. Ive never taken chemistry and I dont have a chemistry brain so I took CHEM 101 because I thought it would be easier and have better explanations. However he doesnt explain things well at all it feels like he assumes you understand the language he is speaking.

The reason I gave him such high difficulty is simply from the fact that he is very convoluted. All I experienced was, here's the problem, here's the answer. Hardly any clear explanations were given. Nothing is done on the computer, all whiteboard and chalkboard. So if you skip, you are done-zo.

Very approachable but is way to smart for a 105 level class! Lectures can be extremely confusing sometimes. Exams are extremely hard and most of the class averages are less than a 75%. If you are not great at chemistry do not take this professor.

He's a good professor to talk to and takes his role as a teacher seriously. Tries to refresh your memory on calculus skills (which are helpful but maybe not strictly necessary). Exams are reasonable (study!) and do his practice problems. Lenient grading scale and partial credit will save you. If you ask questions and self advocate, you'll be fine.

Keep in mind he is the Department of Chemistry Chair. He is too smart for this class and will sometimes talk over your head. He teaches at a good pace. His tests are difficult and there is no homework so tests are a big deal. Study really hard for his tests but if everyone does bad he will let y'all use a sheet of notes.

His lectures are confusing and don't really help you solve the problems you need to do on exams or homework. It's hard to find him if you need help. His grading scale is more generous than most but the tests are a lot harder than the homework and you really need to have this mastered to even get a B on one.

He is a very smart man, but too smart for an intro class. He teaches way above many of his students and teaches a lot on reaserch he does outside of class and goes way to indepth on it. His tests are very hard and are not easy to study for. Maby save this professor for an upper level course.

This professor is very smart, but too smart for a 100 level class. He doesn't really know how to "dumb" things down to a level of understanding for people who aren't chemistry majors. He uses the book a lot and the tests are extremely difficult. If you aren't good at chemistry, this isn't a good professor to take.

He is a brilliantly smart man but the worst teacher I've probably ever had. You never know what you are being tested on, the exams are made to be overly difficult, he goes into far too much detail but doesn't do a good job doing it so you just get confused. Not very good at answering questions, and lecture is so dry it's hard to stay awake.

Great Instructor. He explains everything in detail and you feel as if you know chemistry. However the tests will prove otherwise... Study all the handouts and everything he draws on the board because you will be tested on it..

Made the tests way harder than they had to be for a basic chem class. Took random questions out of the book that he never covered in class. I'd recommend someone else, especially Dr. Wright

Dr. Hladky is a wonderful professor and he always welcomes students to come to him for help. His tests are tough but if you study you should be able to handle it. You need to read the book the understand the material, he doesn't go over things in depth.

Great teacher. Very helpful and approachable. Had him over summer--the whole class passed, only one or two failed. It's hilarious--I read his reviews before I took the class and he does break his chalks a lot.

Dr. Hladky is a brilliant man with an amazing grasp of his subject matter and then some! He also is very helpful and approachable. Attend class and read the book; there is a lot to cover in this class. Don't hesitate to ask questions; he will help you as much as possible. And the calculator thing..it's just too complicated for the standard brain.

This sir once wanted to be a medical doctor.Pr. Hladky is very smart with his field. His lectures were a little helpful but the book helped a bit more. There are only Exams. He has everything planned out in the course syllabus. This is a downfall though cause no assignments mean you HAVE to do well with your tests. He is kind and helpful. Hard class...

A real down to earth guy that is extremely approachable with any issues you have. Has a good sense of humor and is in general a good guy. I had him for p-chem which is one of the hardest classes on campus and he was always willing to sit down with me in his office and help explain things one on one. Great professor.

No deadlines for anything which ends up hurting you more than him if you let it build up. Really nice guy. Hope you like graphs and integrals. And don't ask to use his calculator.
