Study the old tests under Modules. Do all additional practice posted for the section. There's a stereotype of the "mad scientist" for a reason. Lectures frequently get derailed by technology. VERY SCATTERED. Plenty of mistakes-in class, on the syllabus vs homework assignments. CLARIFY, it will come back to bite you. No extra credit.

Professor Ellis is wonderful! I was nervous at first because of her ratings but none of it is true. I would definitely recommend her. She explains very well and does various problems until you understand how to do them. She prepares you for her quizzes and tests. She's so fun and is really funny. I loved her.

Prof. Ellis, lets you know quizzes will be, tells you exactly what is on them, and what to expect on tests. The homework is all online, there are only about 10 questions per chapter, plus you can get extra credit. If you have an A at the end of the class (before dropping lowest test grade), you are omitted from the final. I enjoyed the class.

Everything in Gen/Organic/Biochemistry online is taught through a video lecture of someone other than the actual teacher. I used the book only once (it wasn't required for the class) and I could have done without it. You can google almost every Q for the word problems. But you'll have to know your stuff for the equations though.

Prior to the midterm, she is extremely unhelpful. After the midterm, when you have proved you can stick it out, she gets a little better, but hardly. If you have the ability to pretty much teach yourself chemistry then go ahead and take this course.

VERY horrible teacher! She is unhelpful and is extremely mean. She grades everything late and does not believe she should give you a second chance when you miss class for an emergency. I DO NOT recommend taking this teacher unless you want to fail. Worst teacher on campus but happens to be the head of the chemistry department.

Despite all the negative reviews, Ms Ellis turned out to be a pretty cool instructor. She explains procedures clearly before experiments. Will answer questions if asked. Nice lady. The only thing students should do to do well in her class: make sure you take every note on what she says! Especially when it comes to guidelines, time frames, and wha

Only offered online, if you want the credit, you have no choice. Word of advice, buy the book! DON'T believe it when you're told its "textbook independent". Also, you will be ON YOUR OWN. No instructor handholding. You may NEVER get your emails answered, so if you're the type that gets your feelings hurt over that, don't bother. It's sink or swim!

Nice lady, terrible freaking teacher. It took her two freaking weeks to email me back concerning my grade. Take a different teacher! Not enough examples, material given to study does not match up with the tests, and you will never use the textbook.

This class was ridiculously hard. Lots of people say not to take it online, and lots of people say going to class is a waste of time. I will just say, go out of your way to take a different professor if you can, you will not get an A in this class, regardless of what you do. AVOID THIS TEACHER IF YOU WANT TO KEEP A HIGH GPA!!

Holy cow was this class hard. Took it online and GREATLY regret that. While I did learn quite a bit about chemistry, the tests are ridiculously hard and you never know exactly what you will make. The class average is a 73 if that tells you anything. DO NOT take this class online unless you are great at math and have a basic understanding of chem.

Mrs. Ellis helped me greatly to understand chemistry. She would always take time to answer my questions when she was in her office. There is alot of homework but if you complete it all it counts as a 100 for a test grade. If your a lazy student don't take Mrs. Elllis. Hard class but learned alot about chemistry.

Worst class I ever took. With the DVD's, the study guide, the quizzes, tests, power points, book and homework, it was as if 3 different professors were teaching it. What is emphasised in one area is omitted in another, and I never knew exactly what/how to study for the exams. Lots of mistakes to add to the confusion too. I would never recommend.

If you're thinking of taking her CHM1040 online course, I STRONGLY urge you to reconsider. It was extremely unorganized, there were multiple errors in the answer keys to the online quizzes and the text, and the amount of homework assigned was ridiculous at times (8 pages for 1 chapter). If you can, take this class on campus.

This class was so difficult that it resulted in my decision to change my major. This class might as well be a self taught class because you learn nothing when you go to class. I am used to getting all A's and this seems to be the only class I have ever failed.

For the students taking Fundamental Chm, I feel so sorry for you guys. Yes, she is mean and condescending, and batty. She is intimidating. But don't take it personally. As you move up in her classes she is nicer and more forgiving. She WILL challenge you more than most teachers out there, so be prepared to live and breathe chemistry.
