Professor Konak is fine, but grading is tough and messed up. There is a lot of homework to do every week. Sometimes While lecturing, he sometimes confuses himself. Only take this course for credit. Not agian.

I learned more from this professor than any other class. We always had good conversations during lectures. He made learning easy and fun. He also provides note cards to write on for tests. He does his best to make sure you succeed.

Tough class, but if you take notes and attend all classes, you'll be just fine. His final was tough but he allowed you to have an index card with information. His class is absolutely vital for all students in IST & is the first class that students in the program will actually have to work for. Memorizing information won't get you the A

Bad professor. Lenient on grading but doesn't explain concepts well. If you don't understand material he won't take time out of class to explain it (even if a lot of other students don't get it). Not very patient.

Comment:

He gave a critique of a group paper claiming the paper was full of typos. In this critique where he deducted points for spelling errors, Dr. Konak somehow misspelled weak as "week." Throughout the semester he deducted points for subjective issues or claimed things were wrong that were not actually wrong. Not a bad grader, but just annoying.

Comment:

Konak means well but expects his students to be geniuses that know everything. He will be mean to you if you ask questions and make fun of you. Keep quiet and study alot, you will need to. He is not too harsh of a grader which is nice. No extra credit either, and be prepared for group projects.

Konak was a bit rough to get used to, but ultimately I ended up liking him and loving his class even more. I came into his class thinking databases were useless and unnecessary, but now I think I will pursue a career in database administration.

You learn a lot in his classes, but they are VERY difficult. He's very sharp, don't try to BS your way through him. If you're having trouble with something, ask him right away because you don't want to fall behind. All in all good professor but you have to work for an A.

Comment:

Many hands-on activities. You have to keep up with them, but at the end I learned many practical skills, more than any other IST class. Konak is helpful if you ask help. Virtual machines are slow at times. Good class if you want to learn Linux and web security.

Great teacher. Wasn't sure how the class was going to be but probably the funnest class I have ever taken. He is a challenging teacher but is incredibly smart. Hands down the smartest man I have ever met. Don't take him as a fool. Hes a lot smarter than he looks. Assignments are difficult and time consuming but I was able to get through it.

Comment:

Dr. Konak is a really great teacher! I had him for a class in computer security, which did not interest me at all when I started the class, but he made it interesting and fun to learn, as well as showed alot of other useful things that were not part of the class. TAKE ANY CLASS YOU CAN WITH HIM! Work hard in his class and you will do well.
