Comment:

Dont buy his textbook you wont use it at all. He doesnt curve grades or give extra credit. The material isnt difficult but his tests are! Lots of tricky questions and confusing wording... He doesnt take attendances for lectures & he posts the PowerPoints he uses for them online so thats nice, but make sure you participate in lab & discussion!

Tough material, but great professor. Excellently organized lectures. Hard exams, but if you study hard, you'll be fine. Not an easy class, but there are no dumb fluff assignments, etc. If you're looking to learn and work hard, DEFINITELY take him! These bad reviews are from people who take his humor too personally.

His dad humor makes lectures enjoyable. His tests are very lecture heavy. However he is evil when it comes to tests. He openly admits he throws in trick questions to play with our thinking on purpose and thinks its funny. Dont expect a good grade on the first exam. It takes time to get used to the style of test he gives

Comment:

Dr. Smith is by far one of the funniest professors I've had at Mercer. Even though I didn't always love the material we covered, I always enjoyed coming to class because of the stories or commentary Dr. Smith makes during lecture. He's also very fair - he's moved exams back and will tell you exactly what you need to study.

You can really skip Dr. Smith's BIO class and still pass. I nearly never attended lecture but regularly studied the powerpoints and still made an A. You have to put in the work to study, but if you read the directed readings and memorize the powerpoint you will do fine. His tests are pretty straight forward but can be challenging if you don't study

I would recommend Dr. Smith if you are looking for less work in the short run. No quizzes, but tests are tough. Focus on Power Point and directed study. I find his lectures hilarious. He is sarcastic so take his comments (in lab especially) with a grain of salt. Hard class but funny guy. Kot is dry with quizzes every class but easier tests

Dr. Smith was an ok teacher. His lectures were boring, mostly consisted of him attempting to make annoying jokes. Reading the book is a big help but there's so much reading and so little to retain from his lecture because he is just rushing through material. Would not take again.

Dr. Smith is Hilarious! He keeps you interested in the material by telling personal stories or real life example. He does make a joke and makes you feel dumb when you ask a question so be prepared for that but his question comes word for word from the notes. I got a A+ on both test!

He definately has favorites when it come to recitation. He can be very fecious so do not take him seriously or your feeling will be hurt 90% of the time. Also, his test are HARD the class is not a brezze and he doesn't compassion Moreover, when alot of the students failed he asked "do you still want BIOLOGY as your major" and then laughed STAY AWAY

Dr. Smith will quickly become your favorite professor. That being said, he expects a lot out of his students and his tests are not easy. EXCELLENT NOTE TAKING SKILLS ARE A MUST! He is incredibly knowledgeable about the subject so if you have questions be sure to ask him. Also, he likes Lady Gaga.

Oh gosh, Dr. Smith! He is hilarious! At the same time, though, he is very passionate about biology. He kind of gives you too much information during lectures that you don't have to know, so just study your notes and read the directed studies, and you'll be fine! Bio is NOT as hard as people make is out to be, so don't let them scare you!

Dr. Smith is one of the most passionate and equally hilarious professors I have ever met. You will love him in anything he teaches. He is an entymologist, so he thinks that insects rule the planet. You must go the class, because all of the quiz and test questions come directly from the notes. He makes the subject fun. He's great! Take him!
