Not really getting all the hype here. Took him for Global Cinema and while class was easy enough bc it consisted of watching the films, was VERY unclear on what we should actually be learning/what we were going to be tested on. I feel like I did not learn anything, which is a shame bc the material could've been so interesting.

Prof Auster was great! You have to take very extensive and detailed notes, and you need to go to class. The material itself is not hard, but the tests can get very detailed. He's a really funny guy and very sweet. Only two tests and one longer paper for the entire semester.

He was a really good professor, all his tests were based on his notes so you should really pay attention. Never used the textbook so don't buy it. Otherwise he is pretty funny and do not even try to use your phone, he is really strict about that. He's honestly a sweet heart.

Really enjoyed his class. He's a lovely person and has a nice sense of humor. No need for the textbook but I felt better just glancing through it. Sit in the front, ask questions, take solid notes and you'll do well because he's very fair.

The class was fine. He's a funny guy, and as long as you pay attention in class, you'll pass. Don't make my mistake and buy the textbook. You won't be tested on it no matter how much he insists you will be. Tests are very easy, and he only assigns one paper which was actually a lot of fun. Not a bad class at all!

He is SUPER easy, just don't miss class because all of his tests are based completely off of the notes. These people were right, not once did he use the textbook. His tests are easy and his lectures can get boring, but just keep writing! One 15 paged paper , midterm, a test, and the final. All easy. Plus he's kinda funny.

His Films of Moral Struggle course is pretty good. He starts the class with a short lecture and then shows us a film. Next we discuss it for a bit and class ends. There are three five page papers and one long paper due at the end of the semester. He's strict, smart, and funny.

Al Auster is one of the most underrated profs ever. The class is mostly lecture, but he is a really nice guy, he even throws in some jokes. He always says hello to me in the halls and is very open with his office hours. There is always an extra credit option on the tests. No homework, except midterm essay, never really use the book just take notes.

Auster was great! The lectures were straightforward, sometimes a little dull but if you take good notes, the tests are a breeze. There is a fifteen page paper to be written at some point in the semester, but he is an easy grader. I would definitely recommend him!

Seems intimidating at first, but he loosens up. Not clear at all on the term paper, and your grade basically depends on the notes you take in class. Show up everyday, take thorough notes. We didn't use the book at all.

Takes attendance every class, and learns everyone's name. His lectures are engaging and interesting, and you better write notes down because that's the only material you'll be tested on (but I still read the book, just in case). Knows a lot about the field. Has a sense of humor and is super chill, unless he sees you texting in class or something.

To succeed in film class you need to read the book which he wrote. The exams are given to test whether or not you have read. Can't BS the essay exams. Not afraid to give low exam grades but somehow I don't think you can possibly get a grade lower than a C+ in his class. Everyone passes. Attendance matters. FYI, he's not interested in making friends

Get his book and learn it well. His is very particular when grading exams and needs to see specific material from his text not just from class dicussions/ lectures. Overall good class and insightful prof. recommended.

very easy, very straightforward class. he lecutres only as long as needed, so you leave early most of the time from class. everything is made very clear and he only wants you to know what is absolutely necessary. very funny, though a little formidable at first.

Not a difficult class. All the tests are straight from the notes. Buying the book is waste of money because he rarely refers to it. Overall, he's a nice guy and really helpful.

seems like a grouch but isn't really. takes a very common sense approach to film evaluation- careful though, putting it into coast to watch a coupla flicks will trip you up if you don't tell him what he wants to hear on his tests. get his silly book.
