horrible!!!!! who teaches calculus without a book? No reference to follow if you have questions(and I had a crappy T.A. as well). 100 plus homework problems each week...if you have any doubts about calculus choose another lecturer. By far the worst class I had at Madison -

This man is god. I had him as a freshman for 221 and despite the large amount of work and hours put into the course, if you survive this class, you are set for any other math class at Madison and will sail through it. Also, don't invest in a textbook for 221 because he never uses it-all homework is made up by him and on his website to be printed of

Prof Ram is a genius when it comes to mathematics; straight from MIT; born and raised an Indian. The only problem is that he does not know how to teach! That is the problem with professors that know a little too much in their subjects of interest that they totally miss the whole teaching aspect.

THE GOOD NEWS: He explains everything thoroughly, in a way that is easy to understand. I definitely learned a lot. THE BAD NEWS: TONS of homework. Lots of late nights. Even when homeworks were started ahead of time

Ram rocks. You'll go to bed thinking of function creatures eating numbers and derivatives chomping on functions. "the derivative of e to the junk is e to the junk times the derivative of the junk." classic. tough class, but he MAKES you understand calculus

Professor Ram is by far my favorite professor so far, and I only had him last semester. The man is a genius and he's pretty much figured out a genius way of teaching Calculus to people who don't know. If you wanna learn a lot, take Ram. If you had Calc in HS don't, because you'll just complain and moan about it, cuz you'll think you know it all.

Great professor! He explains everything thoroughly, and is really enthusiastic. Lecture was actually interesting at times because he's very personable. You will get an insane amount of HW. Go to lecture and office hours, he will do a lot of them there. Don't save it all for Sunday either, or you'll be up all night, but it's doable.

You know what, life is hard. Ram's class is inspiring and difficult but in fact, having Ram as a freshman might be a good thing. Ram shows u what other professors don't about calculus, and the amount of work you have to put into the class will program you to be a calc machine. take advance of the help at office hours, your ta, ect. It's worth it

Lots of homework, but you really don't have to do it all. Each assignment is worth about a half percent of a grade, making homework worth only 8% total. He offers office hours on sundays, which are a must. Be prepared to spend about 10 hours a week. I didn't take calc before, went to every office hour, only did hw on sunday and im getting a B.

Assigned way too much homework. And the tests were problems randomly selected from homework. Did not like that at all. Didn't seem to test greatly on concepts, just if you could do the really hard problems. Nice guy, but class is a lot of work.

I don't like the fact that he gives 100 problems of homework every week. It's not easy to complete this since you don't learn all the material until friday. His tests are not that hard though.

The homework sucks, every sunday i wake up and do his homework until i go to bed. But if you do it, the tests won't be a problem. Office hours help a lot. If possible, take wilson for 221. Once you come out of this class, you will underestand calculus though.

An amazing class for those who are willing to work and not cry about it. Ram demands alot but u get alot back. I enjoyed lecture a lot, his stories were funny, and he actually care about talking to us. My advice is to do most of the 100 problems a week and go to office hours. it means a lot of effort but it will be worth it come test time.

Has a way of teaching that makes you UNDERSTAND calculus.. I got a C+ in AP Calc in high school--on my first college exam with Ram I got an A. Unbelievable! Lots of homework but the test is 10 randomly chosen homework problems so the homework is TOTALLY worth it.
