Comment:

Began grading assignments on graduation weekend. He posted final grades about 10 minutes before the deadline. Rarely responds to your emails. He chewed out the Dominoes employees over the phone (mid-lecture) when he tried ordering pizza for the class. A bit unprofessional by not having any office hours, which is a handbook violation.

Comment:

I see Chuck getting hate here so I felt obligated to share my experience. Chuck is a caring person and works hard to teach well. However, the concepts taught are difficult and he's not a perfect teacher: he often goes way too slow or fast He often comes off as interrogating by calling on random people and grills them a lot. Class is hard but doable

Imagine graduating soon and not knowing your grade, thats this class. You learn more about material from readings than lecture. Group project is hit or miss depending on group. Repeatedly interrupts groups mid-presentation causing class to go overtime. Hard to reach by email, no office hours. Only teaches this class but works elsewhere too.

Im not sure why hes still allowed to teach?? Goes over the same lecture slides every week. I learned more reading Wikipedia than I ever did in any of his lectures. Seriously, any of us in the class could do better teaching the course.

Dry lectures. Just reads off slides. Says he'll post helpful material on Blackboard, but WILL NOT post it on time. Tries to be accommodating with loose deadlines, but does not make up for the amount of lengthy papers. Take home midterm and final, but they're like, 4 essays each. Does not post assignments or tests until at least a week late.

If youre looking for a teacher to give you busywork, this isnt him. However, if you are graduating soon, are interested in Machine Learning but dont want a hard ML course, and need to boost your GPA, this is the class to take. Chuck (call him Chuck) does what he can to make sure you ENJOY learning speech recognition. not a simple topic, but easy .

Seems lost most of the time. Came to class with ancient slides that look like he ripped off from various other sources. Cut class early several times because he came unprepared. During final presentations he was more concerned with making sure he left a "bigger tip than anybody else" with the pizza guy (mid-presentation) than watching presentations

Taking class right now and I want to help spread the "good word." Class is interesting, I thought it would be a scary class but it truly grabbed my focus and is very thought provoking. This was actually a very interesting course. I was exposed to alot of topics that are not covered in other classes. Professor Konopka took lots of time to make things clear and he made himself available whenever we needed help with homework, our project and even bout us pizza for our final review.

Comment:

The is a speech recognition class, taught by a guy who works in the field. It is not the easiest topic in the world, but if you keep up it's not bad. Our class was based on our own project - an accent recognizer - and we did it! His approach was to give us the basics of speech recognition and how to apply them. I found this course to be worth while
