Comment:
Based on the entire marking scheme off of three essays which is stupid. Made us read stories and poems that almost caused me to go blind with boredom. If you don't show up to class you can still pass. Not a good professor and super unclear.

His marks are based on one midterm, one essay, and the exam. He marks incredibly hard, which is unfair at times. His lectures are alright, although there is a LOT of material to cover and a horrendous final exam.

I have not learned anything this entire year. That is no exaggeration. For the exam he said to study the readings and notes we have made in class but for the note part I have no clue what he thinks we could have done because there was nothing possible to write during class. Tough marker, there also isn't a lot to do to get a graded so it's hard.

DONT TAKE A CLASS WITH DAVID EVANS. DONT DO IT. He is not a good teacher, has little interest in student success rates and bores the hell out of people. His exam format was 40% identifying random poetry lines, their authors and why they are important and tried to convince us it had nothing to do with memorization. Ha! Boring readings, boring prof.

Light workload for a summer class. A lot of readings that do and don't relate to his lectures. Skim them and you'll be fine. Unorganized, syllabus was changed three within one week. The class was only three. Exam were random terms that he mentioned once or twice in class so go to class, but m.c. was easy. Pretty easy marker for essays.

do not i repeat DO NOT take a class from this guy! i am currently in his narrative in the cinema class and his exam had ZERO relevance to what we learned in class.. i've also tried to meet with him twice about my grades and concerns and he cancelled on me twice, basically he is impossible.. worst class of my undergraduate career by far

Tried to make the three hour lecture bearable, but the course was disorganized- constantly changed the schedule and readings. The course pack he assigned was basically useless-we hardly used it. Gave the essay syllabus late, and his exam questions can be sort of vague. Not Dal's finest prof.

Extremely unorganized. Decided to make a class reader of short stories but there were pages missing. Essay outlines were given out an average of only a week and a half ahead of time and they were all worth 20-30%. Outlines were vague but he marked them specifically according to what he was expecting to see. Tries to lecture dramatically and fails.

Evans is a very kind and intelligent man. However, it is extremely difficult to understand him when he lectures. He's managed to mimic Milton from Office Space in every way possible, down to the very last detail, including his intonation. Although the subject matter was compelling, the class itself was discouraging. His exams were NOT an accura

I took him for two classes and I did really well in both. He DOES sound like Milton from Office Space. He's a great prof. People seem to think he is a hard marker, but if you go to class it's pretty easy. Pay attention to details in character name/places his exams are usually just a series of names that you have to identify. Funny, helpful, nice.

a lot of poetry; so if you don't like poetry, don't take this course! Sounds like Milton from Office Space; really hard to understand and goes off on tangents a lot. Not a bad class, but not a great one either.
