Comment:

I found Prof. Lawless to be very helpful both in and out of class. When I was confused, I just asked for help and he took the time to make me understand. I gained a lot of confidence from the class, but I put in good effort and felt rewarded. It was my observation that he challenged any political leanings just to see what evidence you had.

Mr. Lawless is a great teacher. I don't know why people say he's boring, I didn't think he was at all and I had a 3hr long class. He is also really funny and yes, liberal :) He likes to sneak into his talks things that will be on the test, and he may or may not tell you that so you have to pay attention! I barely used my book.

Professor Lawless is very nice, but VERY BORING. It was painful to sit through his lectures. I made an A and love public speaking, but should have taken this course online to avoid his lectures. I took a class that was 1 day a week and 3 hours long. I suggest you NEVER do that, especially with this class. It was very easy and perfect for someone who is nervous about speaking infront of an audience. His lectures are INCREDIBLY BORING though. I dreaded going to this class just because of how boring it was. I like to speak in public too.

WONDERFULL! I hate speaking but great @ research and I earned an A because he understood nerves. He took a nightmare class and made it a least bearable for me. Enjoyed his class!!

Mr. Lawless is a GREAT instructor! This class is easy to pass as long as you attend and pay attention. I judged my speeches harder than he did! He is very into his teaching, and is a funny guy. VERY easy to get along with. If you want/have to take speech....take him!

I took the honors class and overall it was fairly easy. 3 speeches total and 1 panel discussion. As long as you practice and try to follow what the book says you'll be fine. I got all A's on my speeches and low B's on my mid-term & final and I came out with an A.

He is a little long-winded and he often gets off on tangents, but I don't think this takes away from his ability as a teacher at all. He knows the material well, and makes a great deal of effort to make sure every student in the class understands. Definitely take him, just be prepared to increase your doodling skills during some of his stories.

I made a good grade in the class because I showed up and I met most of the requirements for the speeches. I did however bomb both the tests because I didn't read the text like he asked.He was easy to listen to and I enjoyed the class. Anyone that makes a grade they don't like has no reason to complain at him.It is all in your hands and you choices

I found Lawless to be a patient and helpful teacher. When I went to his office for help on my speech he went over every detail with me. My understanding of how to prepare and present a good speech has been greatly improved. His tests didn't seem that hard if you have decent reading and reasoning skills.

Tests were manageable; wording is a bit tricky. Would suggest sources for materials for speeches; feedback on speeches was helpful. He's funny, experienced, knowledgeable, but had some odd mannerisms. Advice consisted of vague innuendos; not willing to go in-depth in explanation if you needed clarity about a speech, could point you in a direction.

Arrogant & Unclassy! Talks non stop in circles- from time class begins until end of class. Test are very hard and unclear. They are multiple choice, but the answers to choose from are long & closely related. Very confusing. People are sick for thinking he is hot.

If you need to take Speech take him. I dreaded Speech but he made it a piece of cake. He does not grade hard. I made an "A" so you can too. I hate to speak in public. If I can do it so can you. Just take the class and get it over with for goodness sakes.

A very caring and fair professor. He exceeded his reputation as an excellent teacher and speaker. It is not a hard class if you pay attention and prepare speeches the way he tells you. He also seems to respond well to students who joked around with him. Great experience for me. I made an "A" but felt like I earned it.
