If you're taking more than one class this sem do not take his class, he's very vague about everything. He does have some structure in his lectures but he goes on so many tangents I never knew what to take notes on which info from the readings matter. Also vague about what's on the exams aside from giving us frq topics, honestly would not reccomend!

Edward Bristow is an amazing Professor who is simultaneously able to teach important history with nuance in a lecture format and encourage class discussion that is beneficial to the individual student and the make-up of the class as well. Additionally, his willingness to entertain research on numerous issues makes him a must-take professor at FCLC.

Very disappointed that virtually in every class Prof Bristow gives his political opinions.... I'm paying fordham's ridiculous tuition to hear history, not watch an episode of the news....

Professor Bristow is a good man and an excellent communicator. I enjoyed his lectures very much. They are dense, however, you learn very much. As long as students give a decent and fair effort, they should do well. No curvesballs thrown.

Bristow is a brilliant and knowledgeable and I can confidently say that I learned a lot of valuable information from his class. That being said, the class does drag on but I think that also has something to do with the nature of the subject, I took his Holocaust class, so you can imagine how heavy it was. 3 papers +midterm final, pretty easy grader

Bristow is a very understanding professor and lets students pick 4/9 essays they want to wright. However, his class consists solely of him sitting at a desk talking at you and it is a snoozer. You have to do the readings if you want an A, he's a tough essay grader, but a nice guy just boring.

Took this class for EP Modern Europe. Pretty light. 4 essays u choose out of 9, 2 mini oral presentations, 1 midterm, 1 final. Tells you what the test is going to be on. Usually 1 long essay, couple short, & identification Qs. Mainly lectures for the whole period, so it can be boring. Super nice grandpa, really cares, and intelligent. Txbk is $40.

I had Prof. Bristow for a summer course. I took Understanding Historica Change: Modern Europe. I absolutely loved his class. I am disappointed that I have a course conflict and can not take him next semester for Advanced History Core. I highly recommend his UHC: Modern Europe class for the summer. No homework, two tests non-cumulative.

Taken a few history classes with Dr. Bristow because he's not only incredibly knowledgable about the material, but is incredibly dedicated to his students. Participation helps, attendance required, readings valuable for getting good marks on midterm and final, choose your own term paper topic( he helps guide you). He is approachable&willing to help

Professor Bristow is an extremely knowledgeable and well-spoken professor. However, his classes are extremely boring. He is a typical old-school professor that will ramble on and on. Very unengaging. Plus, it is almost impossible to keep up with the readings throughout the entire semester. World War I is fascinating. Professor Bristow is mundane.

Great guy, extremely knowledgeable and loves what he teaches. The best teacher Ive had at fordham so far. You will read hundreds of pages though so be prepared. The key on the tests is 2 or 3 essays (he gives you the topics) and you choose 8 out of 15 ids to identify. Responds to emails right away, focus on the material he likes, itll be on the test

Bristow is a brilliant and passionate historian. However, he needs to quit teaching and start narrating documentaries. The reading assignments were impossibly long (no one did them though), and depending on the rambling lectures is real difficult. That all matters because his exams were terrifying. Way too much material with way too much depth.

While this professor does know his stuff, he rambles on about the subject. Thus, he goes off on tangents during every lecture. Furthermore, you have to take notes from the lectures, which is difficult because his lectures are all over the place and he is not clear on what he wants us to know. Avoid this class unless you are obsessed with history.

Extremely boring. His lectures are well prepared and organized, but he is a terrible speaker and poor communicator. Unless you adore history and have the time to do all the required readings (100+ pages each week), you should not take his classes.

Prof. Bristow is a great professor. He's been doing it for years and you can tell he sincerely loves his job. He's like the sweet uncle (as stated below) who you just want to please with good grades. His classes are heavy on reading, but also heavy on in class explanations so everything is crystal clear. I will be taking him for a third semester.

Very sweet old man, has a mild sense of humor. He's like the nice old uncle you love. Be aware that his class is very heavy on reading, and is mostly based on that. Lots of coursework. You can't afford to fall behind.

I greatly admire this professor. I took a number of his classes and even wrote an honor thesis under his guidance. He is simply brilliant. Personally, I enjoyed both speaking and working with him immensely. His classes are not easy, but why would one want an easy course? Acquiring anything of genuine value in life requires arduous work.

bristow is pretty boring. if you don't love the subject material he teaches or if you haven't taken the class before, hate history, or haven't taken the AP in high school, you'll be sweating the exams-very specific. the grades real easy on essays and his topics are non-thesis. take him once, and try not to fall asleep!

Avoid him if you don't know much about history and trying to learn something from him. He expects you've known as much as he does. He's lectures are quite interesting but sometimes incomprehensible (boring if you are not interested in his topics). A LOT OF READINGS, be prepared. but I like his class though, he's wise and helpful.

the class is all lecture, so it gets boring but it's not that bad. he doesn't use a textbook but instead a CoursePak and several novels. the homework is all reading and then he discusses it in class. there are 2 papers and 2 tests. the tests involved identifying people on the midterm and places on the final, and then several short essays.
