I took Dr. Sutherland for 111, class was difficult but now that ive taken 112 with another teacher I realize how great Dr.Sutherland is and I would highly recommend her. Shes the department head and is very good at explaining things, teaching and fixing problems. I didnt realize how helpful she was until it was too late but I would take her again!

Horrible teacher-puts the powerpoints online but the powerpoints are not helpful and severely incomplete. Her quizzes have question over obscure material with no significance overall. The essay on the final required you to quote multiple sources as well as pictures from the lectures from memory. Made an easy class much harder than it needed to be.

She is extremely unprepared and skips around in lecture so it is hard to keep track of who she is talking about and what time it is happening. She forgets to post things online that she said she would. Wouldn't recommend her.

An academic that can teach very well. Lectures are clear, well formulated. Prof is a forward thinking open minded individual. She's teaching ancient history/civ. but much is applicable knowledge for today's world. Very informative. Expect essay exams. She's very helpful if you need it. Posts notes online.

The amount I learned in this class still stuns me. It was easily one of the best college courses I have ever taken. You must read and she really appreciates class discussion. Wonderful person, interesting and humorous. If you have a chance don't pass up the opportunity to take her class.

She was an awesome lecturer, a knowledgable professor, and was very approachable. Lectures aren't mandatory, but I'd come if I were you. Read everything too, cuz the quizzes weren't as easy as the first half of the semester with Dr. Tandy. Final was easy though. READ!!!

Interesting lecturer; great sense of humor; will work with students if emergencies come up; very approachable. Bothers to post her notes online, which makes notetaking in class better--one can listen instead of spending an hour copying down every word out of her mouth. Rec'd.

Who doesn't love Dr. Sutherland? I mean, Latin can be pretty strenuous but she's got a great sense of humor about the whole thing and if you stick with it, she's even better in the upper levels. She knows a lot of dirty Latin too. =D
