A lot of people will hate on Prof. Azimi but he doesn't deserve it. Class is graded on two exams and one paper. He spells out what will be on each and all you really need to do is ATTEND CLASS. Even the readings are pretty optional but if you consistently skip class you're screwed. Other than that, he's interesting and a great guy.

Honestly, it's hard to rate Azimi. The lectures were fairly dry, but you learn a lot from the readings, which are genuinely interesting. If you're a good history student, you should get a solid grade, but he doesn't have a static grading rationale, which can be annoying. If you're interested in the subject, take the class. If not, I would avoid it.

This guy stands behind his desk and mumbles for an hour and fifteen minutes, rambling on with a few rudimentary slides with pictures of various deceased males withs date they were born and died. Save yourself time and money and watch a few videos about history of Islam and Turkey. Islamic girl in my class corrected this guy multiple times.

Professor Azimi's fatal flaw is that he is a very dry lecturer. It's a shame because he's very knowledgeable and passionate, but it gets boring. You are graded based on just two essay exams an a paper with no curve, so it's high stakes. But if you go to lecture and take good notes, the exams are not very difficult and fit what you've learned.

Going to Azimi's class was always a pleasure. He has a very calming voice and a love for history you don't find every day. An Oxford graduate, very intelligent man and knows his stuff really well. If you go to class and take notes you will be just fine, the exams are written. If you like history and enjoy learning about it I would recommend this

Azimi is an extremely intelligent Professor who is clearly an expert in his field. Lectures can be dull sometimes and if not enough people do the readings he can get aggravated, but his tests are clear if you are up to date on the material since it in the format of X amount of questions and you pick Y amount to answer.

Very knowledgeable, nice, & reasonable professor. The material piles up to tremendous amounts, but as long as you go to class and take good notes, there would be no need to do reading. 2 exams made of 6 essays each, but it's not bad since you can choose out of 14 essay options. Professor is crystal clear in lecture, but TA handles all the grading.

Highly intelligent. Oxford Phd and able to tie contemporary and medieval Islamic civilisation together. I think the bad reviews for this man are a misunderstanding and a desire to want a new, modern & flashy teacher instead. You won't find a more knowledgeable teacher on campus.

I honestly don't know who the rest of the people on this are talking about but Azimi was hands down the worst professor I have ever had. He was rude, pretentious, offensive and graded unfair. I would strongly recommend taking my review to heart before signing up for this class, it was horrible having him.

Not exactly the most interesting professor that I've had a t Uconn but definitely one of the most knowledable. If you're interested in Middle Eastern affairs then you will enjoy this class and do well. If you are not, then just take good notes and listen during lecture and you'll be fine.

Do the readings and participate in class and you will be fine. Midterm was fair and easy if you read. If you enjoy the topic then this class is great. Prof. Azimi is the smartest professor I have had.

He's great. This isn't an "easy A" class, but you learn a lot if you pay attention. He's very knowledgeable and can be very funny/interesting. Though admittedly, as much as I liked this class, the lectures weren't ALWAYS so interesting.

DON'T TAKE A CLASS WITH PROFESSOR AZIMI. He didn't put any effort into our class, and makes it perfectly clear teaching isn't his priority. The class was unproductive, frustrating, and boring. While he is obviously knowledgeable about Iranian history and the Middle East, that does not translate into a positive classroom experience. AVOID THIS CLASS

Smart man, very witty if you actually listen to his lectures. Lots of reading for the class, but not impossible. Overall a fair grader. Focuses on Iran, primarily. His lectures aren't always riveting, but they can be. In general, I'm glad I took this class.

Worst professor I've ever had. He singlehandedly turned me off to the idea of studying history. His lectures were drier than the textbooks, and that says a lot.

This man is an inspiration;he may seem boring on the surface, but not listening and learning is your misfortune. He's also hilarious if you bother to pay close attention. For those wondering how easy of a grader he is, there is a lot more to his bark than his bite (except for when it comes to the paper because you have more time to prepare!).

An extremely interesting professor. His lectures are well thought-out and very informative. He grades fairly easy in the tests (which are essay-based) and the research paper. Though he will try to intimidate people by saying if you don't read the book you'll fail, its simply not true. I didn't read at all and got an A.
