Don't take this class if you are actually interested in the topic. I did that and was disappointed. However, I quickly realized I signed up for a (very) easy class. I recommend going to class as much as you can, because he took attendance for marks a few times. He doesn't post grades on mycourses, so your grade at the end is pretty much a surprise.

Professor Oegema is wonderful. The workload was not heavy, with 1 presentation and 1 final paper. Grades were not known all semester until the final grade was released, but lectures were interesting. He is helpful and very knowledgeable.

This is the best class and the best professor at McGill. He is such a sweet and caring guy who wants you to learn and do well without stressing you out with tons of work. The course was graded by a midterm paper or oral (students choice) and a final paper. It is not mandatory to go to class but the professor is so sweet that youll want to attend.

He is an interesting man. I took 3 of his classes and I liked them all. Can be very hard to follow but you are sure to get a good grade anyway. I learned a lot with him. I would recommend everybody to take at least 1 course with him, just to learn a bit about ancient Israel or the second temple period. Overall a good guy.

Don't even need to show up to class. It's an easy A. Answers are in the course pack for the take home assignment + a final paper at the end with an option to do a 10 min presentation to reduce the amount you gotta write. Gerbern is THE BEST. If you need to boost your GPA this is the class to take.

By far the easiest class you will ever take at McGill. I went to class 4 times, did maybe 10 hours total of work and finished with an A. Also, Gerbern is the man.

Easy class. Take home mid-term with all the answers are in the coursepack so you don't need to do the readings or attend. Put in minimal effort on the oral presentation and cite a lot in the final paper and you're getting an A. Although it is beneficial to attend class because Gerbern is a nice guy who is a good prof and makes class interesting

Prof seems uninterested in subject. Most of work left to student presentations which are not very good. Nice guy but seems more interested in his own work. Lectures hard to follow as they are mostly interpretations of passages. Hard to see why some passages chosen and others not.

The class was terrible. Prof. Oegema is very unclear, unhelpful, does not seem to prepare his classes and does not care fo the students. Avoid by all means!

I loved this class. Prof. Oegema really loves what he does and it makes for an amazing class dynamic. This was an upper-level seminar-style class with very complicated assignments. It was by no means 'easy.' However, Prof. Oegema made the 8:30am lectures the best part of my day. He has a passion for the material, u will too.

the Albertz book was so brutal and the peof didnt really go over it in class.the midterm was obscure and the final paper was hard to do.the prof is really nice, however, and does his best to help the students.take it if ur interested in biblical exegesis but its not an "easy A" class.

Good class with fun prof...it is not hard to get an A if you put some effort into the class. Some say the class is easy, which is not untrue but the class is not useless. I am not in Religious Studies and I took a lot from this class overall. Oegema himself is a great prof and is really nice.

This class is completely useless, but where else can you go to 50% of the classes, split the take home midterm questions up between 5 people, write a 5 page paper, and basically be guaranteed an A-. One Gerbs class per semester is essential.

Sure you can leave class early but what's the point? You can learn so much and do well at the same time. Oegema is a really smart and interesting professor who really wants students to learn. Most assignments are take-home and he will always be there for his students. I highly recommend this or any other of his courses...

Very good prof. It isn't extremely hard to do well, but if you pay attention to him you'll learn a great deal. The TAs were also very helpful and smart. Professor Oegema is always there to offer guidance and assistance to his students and cares a great deal about their take/exploration into Biblical study. A highly recommended course.
