I heard good things about her and decided to take 283 with her, DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE. I am an English major and she made me hate this class. Will lecture for 75 minutes never really getting out a clear thought. She may have been a good professor at one point but she's starting to go off the rails and it shows. I have no idea what we did for 4 mo.

this is the best option for a WI class. Bouson is passionate and gives you all the details you need to write an A-worthy paper in her lectures. Books are easy and enjoyable. There are "pop quizzes" but she tells you when they are. three 3-4 page papers.

10/10!!!! Take her!!!!! This was a writing intensive class and we only wrote 3 papers the whole time. You have pop quizzes, but she tells you when they are. Amazing, I am usually a B ish writer maybe even Cs, but the lowest grade I got on anything was an -A. If you need a writing class take her! It fills up quick. Read the summaries of the book.

Dr. Bouson is one of the kindest people in the department, she's also hilarious and so full of energy--impressive when you think she assigns some of the most depressing novels ever written. She's smart, loves what she does, and is incredibly engaging. It's also not a hard class at all if you stay on top of things.

J Brooks Bouson is a beautiful person. Her topic is shame theory and she takes you deeper into the reading than you ever thought your could go. She makes an effort to get to know you and relate the reading to your interests, and she's such a happy person. Her grading can be hard if you're not a very good writer, but for most part it was great class

She is a typical English professor...she extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the topics. I enjoyed going to class, her discussions of the books/topics were helpful for pop quizzes (~10), 2 essays, and midterm/final. She sometimes gets lost in the topic but the books were an easy enjoyable read. Plus she listens/cares about her students.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! This is not an easy class, it is not fun, and it is not interesting. You will work so hard, go to the writing center, and it won't matter. The class should also be titled "Women in Misery." Truly horrible class and it was not at all what I expected. I read the previous comments about this class too... wrong! Don't do it!

No complaints. I was late every day to her class and she brushed it off. She is extremely helpful and understanding outside of class, if you just email her. As for grading if you take good class notes and repeat all those notes in your papers you should be fine. She like details, not really a hard grader though.

She's a little bit of an odd bird, but she is VERY qualified to be teaching this class. She's published in all of these areas. She tends to monopolize essay topics to the point of not allowing any self-expression, and class discussion is difficult because she talks way too much. Sometimes it is a little unclear what she is saying as well.

She is the cutest elderly woman with a big heart. She knows the material extremely well. You have to pay attention to pass but it's interesting so it isnt hard to do so. She makes you read a lot and hardly anything is on sparknotes. She is interesting to pay attention to because she's a bit odd sometimes. Definitely take this class!

This class was amazing for anyone interesting in women's literature or looking for a good core class. There are only 3 papers for the semester, as well as an in class essay for the midterm and final. Although, my only complaint were that her prompts were very long and broad, making it hard to focus papers, but she outlines what to cover in them.

It is possible to do well in this class, but it take A LOT of work. Warning: you cannot do these papers in one night...it takes about a week. The class is OK for a writing intensive, but take something else if you want core.

i was one of 2 males in class, got an A. she breaks down every novel beautifully, so class notes alone are enough to write a good essay. I didn't read several books i wrote essays on, yet got As on all of them. Attendance not necessary, i missed a lot. many readings, some boring, some interesting. 2 oral reports, very informal and open. Great class

The discussions were pointless. TM writes good books but you might be sick of her after this class. Bousson is earnest but she needs to delve deeper into the material she is covering.

She is extremely knowledgeable and knows her material very well. She does tend to monopolize the conversation, but her good intentions and enthusiasm excuse this tendency. The course requires a lot of reading, but if you keep up with it, good grades will follow. I recomend this course.

the material is interesting, but she rarely lets anyone talk. constantly claims to want more class discussion but never shuts her mouth long enough for it to happen. interrupts. grading seems a little sketchy, inconsistent. kind of an odd bird.

The books are really good, but that doesn't make up for her pointless, repetitive ramblings....she will make the same point ten times, as if she doesn't think students are capable of understanding the material. often cuts off students when they are speaking. discussions are painfully boring.
