Professor Cross is a very kind gentleman. As a non-native speaker I always feel anxious about writing essays. However, Professor Cross doesn't really care minor grammar errors. He only cares if you can learn the real meaning of 'Good and Evil' from the readings. Just make sure be on time, no cell phones and be prepared for the reading assignment.

Best English class I've taken. Been out of school 10+ years and got an A. Lots of reading 5-6 books, but well worth it. I actually enjoyed them. Rare hw, 3-4 papers, EC opportunities. Role taken every class. Interesting lectures. Goes over reading assignments with you in class. EC if you participate w/in-class readings.

Not the best english class out there! I regret taking him. He is not lenient with grading anything. I would not recommend him to anyone, even the hard working.

Cross is a nice guy, but he's not that easy to pass. His reading test is not easy even with open book. He only assigns two take home essay with 2 pages short. If you're looking for less work, Cross is the teacher doesn't make you work alot.

He's the best English teacher! Always there to help and he's very nice and friendly. He wants you to do well in his class, and his very knowledgable and sense of humor. There's not much homework, read four books in the semester and two very short take home essay. All of them are not easy as long as you read them. Would definitely recommend him!

Incredibly knowledgeable and never has a mundane lecture. Even though you may not participate in class, he still tries his best to give you everything you need to know about the text you are studying. He is there to help if you need it. Always has a test, then a short take-home essay. Never grades unrealistically.

He is a profound professor, he is an intelligent and genuine man who makes the right connections with his students. I really love how he explains the shakespearian language to understand the humor in the words. You will never find one like him

English is my 2nd language but I got an easy B for this class (ENG 1B). There are many tests and writings but all of the essays are short--200-500 words. Very nice and passionate professor, and humorous too. He made me laughed in every session, literally. I never thought I would love a class like ENG 1B (I hate writing!) Wish it were an A tho.

One of the best instructors I've ever had in my LIFE. Completely passionate about literature. Beware, tests are HARD multiple choice, paragraph, and essay usually. Does a whole variety of things. Lots of extra credit. He expects that students already know how to write well. Teaching emphasis is on understanding literature, not writing it.

Great professor. Hardly ANY homework. Must do reading (Shakespeare). Take his English 1B, I did: It was great! "Going after Cacciato" is amazing (hint: it's all a dream). If you do the reading it's an EZ "A". No oral presentations. The Final was a take home essay! He was the BEST.

He is a good professor, in the sense that he's passionate about the beauty of literature. If you're not a big fan of Shakesphere, be careful with this course, because there'll be lots of poetry from Shakesphere you'll have to read on about. Good luck.
